Tuesday sees the start of the fantastic five day Royal Ascot meeting, with top class action throughout the day as runners from all over the world gather for some fantastic racing on ground that is likely to be perfect after the recent rain. There are three Group 1 races and extremely competitive racing throughout the seven race card.
2022 is already a sell out, and racegoers will be hoping that the Queen is well enough to attend this year after missing the Epsom Derby a couple of weeks ago.
For sprint fans, the five furlong Group 1 Kings Stand at 3.40pm is undoubtedly one of the best races of the week, with top class familiar sprinters from around the world likely to be locking horns again.
In contrast, the stamina sapping Ascot Stakes at 5pm (over two miles and four furlongs) provides a severe test (that very few horses on the turf are able to stay properly).
Elsewhere, there are supporting flat meetings at Beverley, Brighton and Thirsk, while NH fans have the card at Stratford to get stuck into.
Twilight Calls
Royal Ascot 3:40pm
Henry Candy’s sprinter often travels through his races like one who should be well capable of winning Group 1 contests, and he was certainly a very unlucky loser of the Temple Stakes at Haydock last month (run repeatedly blocked after halfway when cruising).
He has optimum conditions at Royal Ascot on Tuesday upped in class to the Kings Stand, with a blistering early pace assured up front to help him settle and the rapidly quickening ground very much suiting his smooth travelling run style. The first time booking of Ryan Moore (replacing Adam Kirby) increases confidence, and the stable has begun to hit top form in recent weeks after a typically slow start to the turf season proper.
Odds: 8.50
Bradsell
Royal Ascot 3:05pm
Archie Watson’s strapping colt had been working superbly at home ahead of his debut at York last month, and he landed hefty market confidence there very much in the style of a Group class performer (coming home unchallenged by nine lengths).
The six furlong trip suited there, he seems a straightforward ride, has vital experience in the book, and clocked an excellent time figure without coming under serious pressure at any stage. This does represent a big jump up in class, but he is well worth chancing at the current price under Hollie Doyle.
Odds: 9.00
Odds are best odds available as at 6pm June 13th 2022. Odds may now differ.
