For jumps enthusiasts there is a competitive card at Cartmel to study, where a huge attendance is expected again at the unique Cumbrian venue, and a similar holiday crowd will be gathered at Newton Abbot.

Gary Moore’s handicapper remains a maiden after 10 career starts on turf, but he has been running really well on the all-weather in recent months and confirmed that improvement when a close third at Bath 8 days ago. This represents a slight drop down in class, with the promising 5lb claimer Anna Gibson taking over in the saddle to alleviate the burden of topweight, and he should relish this more galloping track kept at a mile (proven stayer over 1m2f which will count for plenty if these inexperienced riders get racing too soon).
