We all expected France to be in the semi-final game of the World Cup tournament. But nobody in their right mind could have predicted that the defending world champion will be facing Morocco at this stage. The Atlas Lions are the feel-good story of the tournament and are the first African team to make it this far in this competition.
This is a very interesting matchup as some of the Moroccan play were born in France and a lot of them still play there. Will the Moroccan team continue their fairy tale, or will Les Bleus defend their title?
Check out our France vs Morocco prediction for all the answers.
France went to the knockout stages as the first team in Group D. They had no trouble facing Poland (3:1), but then had to go against England, their toughest test yet at this tournament. It was a game for the ages as France managed to eliminate one of their long-time rivals by 2:1 in a game that went back and forward.
Aurelien Tchouameni gave France the lead, but only to have it overturned when Harry Kane equalized via penalty. But France’s all-time top scorer added another goal to his tally when he netted a header to give his team the lead. England had a chance to equalize once again, but the Three Lions captain, Harry Kane, missed the entire goal from the spot, allowing Les Bleus to advance further.
Morocco conceded only once during this tournament. It was against Canada when Nayef Aguerd scored an own goal. The Atlas Lions finished top of their group, eliminated Spain on penalties and then had to face Portugal in the quarterfinals.
It was a hard match for Walid Regragui and his men. Portugal kept attacking, but Yassine Bounou once again showed that he might be the best goalkeeper in this tournament. A single mistake by Diogo Costa allowed Youssef En-Nesyri to score, making it 1:0 for Morocco and a historic feat for this African nation.
Make no mistake, the two sides are going to be featured in their strongest lineups. Morocco is facing a few injuries but should come with the standard 11.
France’s chance of winning are rated at odds of 1.56, while Morocco is an underdog at 8.00. While it is awesome to think that Morocco will be able to prevail and somehow reach the finals, it is hard to get past an experienced team like France. Morocco has shown that they are a tough team to score on and France already struggled against a similar team in Tunisia at this tournament.
But every France vs Morocco prediction will tell you that they are more than capable of scoring at least a single goal. So a goal range between 0-1 at 2.80 is entirely possible. You can also pick the exact number of goals, with 1 at 3.80. Or, you can go for a correct score of 1:0 for France at 5.30.
