UFC 262: Charles Olivera Style & Form
Charles Oliveira is an experienced UFC veteran with multiple records to his name. The most notable one is the record for most submission wins in the UFC (14). He is also tied for the most finishes in UFC history at 16.
Oliveira has 39 MMA fights under his belt and 30 victories, 19 of which have been submissions. He is on an 8-fight winning streak and his last bout saw him dominate Tony Ferguson on the ground.
Oliveira joined the UFC back in 2010, and there are not a lot of fighters with his experience and quality in the game. His main strength are his exceptional BJJ skills. Oliveira started training BJJ at a very young age and used it as the foundation for his success in the world of fighting. He is an exceptionally skilled fighter and his technique rivals the best in the sport.
His stand-up can also be an effective tool at times, with eight knockout victories in his career.
His submission game is impeccable, but one thing that gets overlooked at times is the way he gets takedowns. Charles Oliveira has mastered the art of the counter-takedown. Oliveira forces opponents to counter with a jab or leg kick, allowing him to quickly avoid his opponents’ strikes and go for the body lock. This skill is extremely difficult to master and it is very underrated because he has been able to get a huge amount of takedowns just from this.
UFC 262 Michael Chandler Style & Form:
Michael Chandler had an impressive background in wrestling before starting his MMA career. He wrestled at the University of Missouri as a Division I wrestler and was awarded DI All-American honors.
Chandler spent most of his career fighting in Bellator and was the Lightweight champion three times in his career. After ending his third title run in May 2019, Chandler fought two more times in Bellator and won both of them. After Bellator 243, Chandler decided to take his talents to the UFC as a free agent.
Michael Chandler made his UFC debut against Dan Hooker in late January 2021. Chandler wasted no time getting warmed up and finished hooker in the first round. Chandler threw a right hand to the body of Hooker, which opened up his left for a vicious overhand that landed directly on the jaw of Dan Hooker. The fight was already over, but it took a few more punches to the head of Hooker for the referee to end the fight.
It’s safe to say that his transition from Bellator to the UFC went smoothly, and what better way to debut in the UFC than an overhead knockout.
Michael Chandler has won three fights in a row, and all three have been first-round knockouts. What’s most impressive about his game is his knockout power. Although he lacks the BJJ skills of Oliveira, his background in wrestling is a major advantage, and he is very difficult to take down.
UFC 262 Predictions:
It’s difficult to imagine Oliveira submitting Michael Chandler, as Chandler is very good at scrambling and difficult to take down. Chandler is a heavy-hitter and more dangerous than the opponents Oliveira has faced recently. His stamina will be the deciding factor for him in this fight. Oliveira is very good at waiting for his opportunity to take down a tired opponent and finding the submission.
If Chandler is to win, it will have to be in the first round with another massive punch that will stun Oliveira and allow him to finish the fight. The bookmakers have him winning it by KO/TKO at 3,00 odds.
