Corey Anderson is on a 4-fight winning streak. His last win was very impressive as he stopped Johnny Walker in the first round. Corey likes to pressure his opponent against the fence and moreover, he is good at switching up takedowns with strikes. In conclusion, his fighting style is what makes him special.
“Overtime” has landed 63 total takedowns in his UFC career which consists of 14 fights. Not only does he have a takedown average of 4.96 per 15 minutes but also his grappling accuracy is great at 50% which means he successfully gets his opponent to the ground in 1 out of 2 attempts. Additionally, Corey also has good takedown defense at 83%.
The numbers don’t lie: Corey is a well-rounded fighter due to the fact that he has solid striking and wrestling.
On the other hand, looking at weaknesses, Corey has lost 3 fights via TKO. He has been finished by Jimi Manuwa, Ovince St. Preux, and Gian Villante. Undoubtedly, Anderson has been knocked out before and therefore, knocking out Anderson seems to be Blachowicz’s best shot at winning.
Polish fighter Jan Blachowicz is on a 2-fight winning streak since being finished by Thiago Santos. Most recently he defeated Ronaldo Souza via split decision in November. Along with Luke Rockhold, notable wins have come against Jimi Manuwa and Jared Cannonier.
Due to the fact that Blachowicz is a technical striker he likes to beat his opponents over time. On the other hand, if he sees an opening he can knock his opponents out which is what we saw in his fight with Luke Rockhold. It should be noted that Blachowicz is also a pressure fighter.
Blachowicz lands 3.54 significant strikes and absorbs 3.11 per minute. He has an average fight time of 11:40 and a takedown defense of 61%.
Anderson will spend the majority of the fight on top, beating Blachowicz. The fight, being five rounds, also plays right into Anderson’s game, and the Pole will most likely be very fatigued going into the championship rounds. However, Corey will remain composed and will get the unanimous decision win.
Corey “Overtime” Anderson has had 14 fights in the UFC. Fighting out of Rockton, Illinois the American trains at The Kennel Fight Club and competes at Light Heavyweight. There’s no denying that Anderson is a strong contender in his division, and his resume certainly backs that claim up. Currently riding on a 4-fight winning streak, Anderson believes he is next in line for a shot at Jon Jones if he beats Blachowicz a second time.
Jan Blachowicz is one of the few Polish fighters in the UFC. He has 13 fights in the organization and has faced “Overtime” once before. The Pole has had ups and downs in his career. Twice in his career, he’s been on two-fight losing streaks but has always seemed to bounce back and never lost any confidence. Blachowicz’s had another low when he was knocked out by heavy-hitter Thiago Santos in February of 2019. However, despite his devastating loss, the Pole would go on to earn the biggest win of his career against former MIddleweight champion Luke Rockhold. After that, Blachowicz went on to beat Ronaldo Souza in a close split-decision and now, he’s looking at his biggest challenge in Corey Anderson.
Anderson and Blachowicz have crossed paths before at UFC 191 where the American bested Blachowicz. The fight went to the distance and Anderson won a decisive victory over Blachowicz who went back to the drawing board.
