Seriously though, I think the Dodgers will finally snap out of this funk they’re in, and they’ll do it with a young starting pitcher with only one start this entire campaign.

Ryan Pepiot has never lost a game that he has started in two years with the Marlins, and yes, that is s mall sample size being that he has only 8 starts in his career. His only start in 2023 came on August 30th against Arizona, and all he did was allow 2 hits through 5 innings to pick up his first win this year.

Pepiot made 7 starts last year, and his 3 – 0 record, and we all thought he would be among the starting five in the rotation as spring training started back in March. That didn’t work out, and he still is unsure if he will have a spot on the team when the playoffs begin. Peiot is just happy to be back in the bigs, and now that Julio Urias is out for an unknown amount of time, Pepiot has his chance to build on his resume.

Braxton Garrett is listed as the probable starter for the Marlins in this game, and he just faced the Dodgers a few weeks ago. In what amounted to a 3 – 1 loss, Garrett went 6 innings and only allowed 5 hits although two of those were long balls that found the outfield stands.

I expect both of these starting pitchers to give us 6 solid innings, and the runs will be at a premium so let’s move to the total.

GAME TOTAL UNDER 8.5 RUNS

Under me, please! As I just mentioned, Garrett and the Dodgers just played to a 3 – 1 game on August 19, and I expect a similar result for tonight’s contest.

The Dodgers will finally get over losing 5 of their last 6 games, including the first two games of this series to the Marlins being outscored 17 – 7.
