The Padres and Mets both rank in the top-11 by wRC+ over the last month. Both bullpens have had their issues at times this season.
This pitching matchup, however, points us towards taking the under here. Yu Darvish has performed much better than his ERA indicates. Justin Verlander might have declined a little from his immense 2022 performance, but he owns a 3.61 xERA on the season and has been exceptional over his last two starts, conceding no earned runs across 12 innings.
San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Best Bet
Darvish and Verlander should be able to get relatively deep into this game. Both teams have good back-end relief options.
While the respective offences have improved recently, we fancy good pitching to keep this to a tight game. Only the Guardians and Phillies have hit the under more often than these two teams this season.

The Cincinnati Reds are baseball’s hottest team over the last six weeks, which has coincided with the arrival of several top prospects, including Andrew Abbott, who starts on Friday night.
Cincinnati has gone 6-0 in Abbott’s starts – the southpaw boasts a 2.68 xERA and pitched six, one-hit innings in his debut against these Brewers.
Since May 25th, the Reds are 28-10, creating a fierce race with Milwaukee atop the National League Central. The Brewers are on a 13-14 stretch.

Corbin Burnes starts on Friday, and he’s been far from his best, with a 4.00 ERA on the season. He’s striking out fewer and allowing more hard contact than previous years.

New York Yankees vs Chicago Cubs Preview

Carlos Rodon makes his long-anticipated Yankee debut on Friday night after looking at his dominant best in a trio of rehab outings. New York won’t let Rodon pitch particularly deep into this game, but their bullpen has been one of the best in the league over the last month. They have several options to get more than three outs.
Chicago sends Jameson Taillon to the mound. The former Pirate has been one of the worst starters in the big leagues this season, with a brutal 6.93 ERA and an expected number in the fives.
New York’s offence hasn’t been great without Aaron Judge, but they should be able to do damage against Taillon. He has allowed three or more runs in all but one of his starts.

Look for the Yankees bullpen to hold onto whatever lead Rodon can give them. We like this price on New York to cover.
