Detroit Tigers vs Arizona Diamondbacks PREVIEW

The Detroit Tigers have now lost six games in a row, and have scored three or fewer runs in all six of those contests. Arizona enters this series on the back of a sweep of the Washington Nationals. Since May 11th, they are 18-8.

Merrill Kelly takes the hill for the Dbacks, owning a 2.80 ERA and having won his last four starts. Kelly has won six of his last seven appearances.

Tigers starter Michael Lorenzen has had a solid year, but it is a big ask to completely nullify this Diamondbacks offence.

Detroit, meanwhile, is 29th in wRC+ on the season. Arizona has the speed to manufacture runs when they need to, which should be enough for Kelly to record a ninth win of the season.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Texas Rangers PREVIEW

The Texas Rangers have the best offence in the big leagues (by wRC+) since the start of last month. Tampa Bay is third in team xwOBA and has the best offence in 2023 per wRC+ (just ahead of the Rangers).

While Andrew Heaney had an ERA of 3.26 last month and has had one start with over three earned runs since his first outing of the year, his underlying metrics are middling. Tyler Glasnow can be dominant, but he has a 7.43 xERA through two starts after injury. He’s given up a lot of hard contact.

These teams also have two of the four highest bullpen ERAs since May 1st. They are two of the six most profitable teams for backing the over. We fancy a few runs for each team on Friday night.

Colorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres PREVIEW

Swept by the Giants during the week, the Colorado Rockies have now lost eight of their last 10 games. Just five teams have covered the run line less frequently as an underdog this season. Friday brings Austin Gomber, sporting 6.99 ERA and 7.24 xERA, to the mound.

Gomber matches up with veteran pitcher Yu Darvish. Darvish has an xERA in the mid-threes – his underlying metrics are in line with how he pitched in 2022, when he finished eighth in Cy Young voting.

Colorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres BEST BET

San Diego has been inconsistent this year. Their offence is underachieving massively. Still, when they do win, it tends to be in emphatic fashion, and their line up should have no problem putting up a few runs against Gomber.
