Chicago began this series with a 5-4 win, making it five of their last six games with nine or more total runs. Only the Dodgers have hit the over more consistently than the Pirates this season, who have now seen nine or more total runs in each of their last four.
August has been a slightly better month for the Pirates after a brutal drop-off. Their offence sits at 98 wRC+, which has been able to keep them in most games even with their pitching struggling. The Cubs have a 114 wRC+ this month, and have scored four or more runs in 11 of their last 12.
Mitch Keller has strung together a few decent starts, but he’s been giving up a fair few hits and really struggled throughout July. Pittsburgh should be able to score at least a couple off Kyle Hendricks.
There’s good value on this over at 2.00.

The Mariners’ eight-game winning streak came to an end with a blown save against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, but Seattle is still heavily favoured to get back to winning ways with Bryce Miller on the mound tonight.
Kansas City sends Brady Singer to the hill. Singer has pitched well after a rough start to the year, but he still doesn’t generate a huge number of swing and misses, which makes him vulnerable against a scorching Mariners offence.
Miller has given up only two earned runs across his last three starts. He’s pitched five or more innings in seven consecutive outings. There is the risk of the Mariners bullpen costing them another win, but we still like this price on Miller to record his ninth win of the year.

The Major League leader with 247 strikeouts, Spencer Strider’s strikeout line is set at 8.5 for Atlanta’s game at Oracle Park on Friday night. Strider is in the 99th percentile in strikeout rate, 99th percentile in whiff rate and 97th percentile in chase rate.
The Cy Young frontrunner sat down 10 Giants on strikes in his previous start. His price on this line was much longer on that occasion, but we still love the value here even at 1.77.
We might start to worry a bit more if it gets nudged up to 9.5, but Strider has cleared this number in seven of his last 11 starts and the Giants have struck out in over a quarter of their August plate appearances.
