CHICAGO CUBS VS ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
Fri, Sep 08. 19:20 (UK time)
The Cubs and Diamondbacks are battling for Wild Card position in the National League. Arizona opened the series with a crucial 6-2 win and now sends their ace Zac Gallen to the mound against Jameson Taillon.
Gallen has not been at his best of late, allowing 11 earned runs across his last two starts. Taillon has been poor all year, posting an xERA in the fives.
These two offences both rank around the middle of the pack over the last month, but they will each have opportunities to do damage in this matchup.
This total just seems far too low. We’d be tempted to take the over even at 8.5. The Cubs have now gone over this line in four of their last five, and we’d be surprised if there’s fewer than 10 runs from these two teams on Friday night.
WASHINGTON NATIONALS VS LOS ANGELES DODGERS
Sat, Sep 09. 00:05 (UK time)
Washington has lost eight of its last 10 games. Seven of those losses have been by multiple runs. The Dodgers might have lost series to the Braves and Marlins, but they are still on a 26-9 run. Of those 26 wins, 23 have seen them cover this spread.
Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan has an ERA in the fives, but his xERA of 3.84 shows he has been a solid pitcher when he’s been in the Majors this season. The story is flipped for Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore, who has a 5.12 xERA and has been short of consistency all year.
Of course, the Dodgers offence is far superior, posting a 119 wRC+ over the last month compared with Washington’s 87 mark. This seems like an easy cover for the National League West leaders.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS VS COLORADO ROCKIES
Sat, Jan 21. 00:40 (UK time)
These are the two worst offences in the Majors over the last month (by wRC+). San Francisco has scored three or fewer runs in six of its last eight games, and enters this one on a six-game losing streak, which has seen them fall to .500.
Colorado has a team 76 wRC+ on the road this season. Tonight, they face elite pitching prospect Kyle Harrison, who was excellent in his first two Major League starts before conceding four homers to the Phillies last time out. The Rockies line up does not pose anywhere near the same power threat, and they have been by far the worst offence against lefties all year.
Only two teams have hit the under more often than the Giants this year. There’s great value here.
