MLB Saturday Night Parlay: 8.43 Ticket For Opening Division Series Games

MLB Saturday Night Parlay: 8.43 Ticket For Opening Division Series Games
IMAGO / USA TODAY Network Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (35) throws against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning at T-Mobile Park

All four MLB Division Series get underway on Saturday after a quick Wild Card round with four sweeps. The action begins in Baltimore just after 6pm UK time, but it’s the final three games of the night that got Sam Cox’ attention for this Saturday night parlay.

HOUSTON ASTROS VS MINNESOTA TWINS

Sat, Oct 07. 21:45 (UK time)

This Twins line up forced Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman out of their Wild Card starts before the sixth inning – the pair combined for just seven frames as Minnesota recorded an historic sweep to book a Division Series matchup with the Houston Astros.

Justin Verlander has a raft of postseason experience, and has often delivered on the biggest stage. Houston has opted to give the future Hall of Famer the ball for Game One, and they will not have the same urgency to hook him as the Jays did with their starters in a short series.

Still, Minnesota saw the joint-fourth most pitches per plate appearance during the regular season. Verlander was often touch and go with this line, getting more than 18 outs just three times in his last 10 starts, and going under this number on three occasions. There’s value here.

  • Selection: Justin Verlander under 17.5 outs
  • Best Odds: 2.30
  • Bookmaker: Bet365
  • Stakes: 8/10

ATLANTA BRAVES VS PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Sat, Oct 07. 23:07 (UK time)

The Phillies enter this series on a high after a two-game sweep of the Miami Marlins. The ballpark was rocking, particularly for Bryson Stott’s Game Two Grand Slam. Philadelphia now heads on the road, however, and having put Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola up in the first round, they hand the ball to Ranger Suarez.

Suarez has a below-par 4.36 xERA. He had a 5.20 ERA in September. Atlanta’s offence topped the Majors by wRC+, and should be able to do damage against a southpaw who doesn’t miss many bats.

Without the stresses of the Wild Card round, Atlanta is able to send Spencer Strider to the mound. Strider might not have been at his best throughout September either, but he’s got the best stuff among starters in baseball. This pitching matchup massively favours the Braves.

Philadelphia went just 39-41 against the run line on the road. In front of a bouncing home crowd, we expect an easy home win for Atlanta here.

  • Selection: Atlanta Braves -1.5
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: Bet365
  • Stakes: 7/10

LOS ANGELES DODGERS VS ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Sun, Oct 08. 02:20 (UK time)

The Diamondbacks might have stuttered at the end of the regular season, but they unlocked their best baseball for the Wild Card round, seeing off the Milwaukee Brewers in two games. Good pitching was backed up by solid offence, and they will look to follow a similar formula against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles has the star power, yet their pitching concerns are huge. Clayton Kershaw, for instance, is healthy to start Game One, but he’s lost fastball velocity down the stretch and his underlying metrics have been poor for a few weeks.

Arizona starter Merrill Kelly, meanwhile, was excellent in five of his six September outings. Having gone 46-37 against the run line on the road, we like the Dbacks’ chances of at least keeping this to a one-run ballgame.

  • Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks +1.5
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: Bet365
  • Stakes: 4/10
