New York Yankees Vs Minnesota Twins Moneyline Best Bet: Tuesday, September 6th

The Minnesota Twins are in New York for a four-game series with the Yankees. The 27-time World Series champions got off to a winning start on Monday to record back-to-back wins for the first time since August 26th. New York is coming off an abysmal 10-18 record in August, and while Minnesota have slowed down in the second half too, their 14-14 mark last month shows they have avoided the same sort of season-altering slump as the Yankees.

Minnesota is still a hefty underdog here at a 3.00 price to win the game. They are just 28-36 on the road, while the Yankees are 46-20 at Yankee Stadium in 2022.

The Yankees give the ball to Gerrit Cole in the hope of moving to three consecutive wins. Cole obviously has elite numbers across the board, but consistency has been an issue. The former Astro has conceded three or more runs in four of his last eight starts, and was lit up for seven earned in 2.1 frames when he faced the Twins earlier this year.

Cole duels with Joe Ryan, who has a 3.88 ERA and 3.76 xERA in 2022. Ryan has not broken out as some had expected, but he has remained a solid arm and has kept the Twins in games. He leaked five earned runs to the Red Sox in his last start, but he conceded just four runs in his three outings prior to that game. While one could point to subpar line ups making Ryan’s life easier, the same can be said of these Yankees outside of Aaron Judge. Only three teams (Miami, Pittsburgh, Colorado) have a lower team wRC+ than New York over the last month.

The Twins have experienced their own offensive decline, albeit not as drastic as the Yankees’. They are just below league average offensively since August 6th, and still rank up in third in line drive rate over that span.

New York Yankees vs Minnesota Twins Best Bet

The demise of New York’s bullpen has been a big part of their second half story. Just six relief groups have a worse xFIP across the last month. Minnesota, on the other hand, made moves to improve its relief corps and they are up in fourth by the same metric.

Cole starting and the Yankees’ great home record contributes to their status as heavy favourites. Yes, the Twins have been poor on the road, but they are the better line up right now and have a superior bullpen. Ryan should give them a chance here – there’s great value backing the road team at this price.
