In an unexpected battle for this year’s National League Championship Series title, the Phillies and Diamondbacks will open Game 1 of the festivities on Monday night in the City of Brotherly Love. As we have seen throughout this year’s MLB post-season, the underdogs have been barking so loud that the favourites have folded like lawn chairs, and now one of those teams will be competing in the 2023 World Series.
Luckily, Ej has been thinking underdog throughout the MLB Playoffs, and that has worked out very nicely for him and all of our readers here at Bettingexpert. The Phillies are favourites for Game 1 of the NLCS on Monday night, and they are the favourites to advance to the World Series expected to get past Arizona. Philadelphia lost last year’s World Series the Astros, and they have not won a title since the 2008 campaign..
Being favoured has done nothing but lead to failure for those bettors who lay the chalk and play what appears as the better team, so we do not doubt that Ej is thinking dog again to open the NLCS. Let’s see what he’s got in store for us here, and be sure to check out his ALCS Game 2 article that will be posted for Monday night too!

The Philadelphia Phillies find themselves as favourites to win Game 1 of the NLCS, and they are also favoured to make another appearance in the World Series. The line setters have set the Phillies at 1.52 to win the NLCS against the Diamondbacks while also listing them at 1.62 to open the series with a win on Monday.
Let’s just say that all that does is make me happy we are getting so much value in the road team to win the first game of the NLCS because thinking underdog has been the only way to go in this year’s version of the MLB Playoffs.
Zach Wheeler and Zac Gallen have been given the nod to start on the mound for their respective clubs on Monday night to open the NLCS. While I expect Wheeler to have his usual success striking out a handful+ of D’Backs, I do not think that it will ultimately lead to a Phillies win at home, and you know I love putting big dogs on the board to bark loud and proud.
Arizona features odds of 2.40 to win this game, and while I suggest you make that your main play for this Game 1 in Philly on Monday night, you can also take the time to add a couple of plays in the mix and turn it into a same-game parlay.
While I see enough value in the Diamondbacks just to win the game, we can boost those odds up to 4.50 by adding a couple of props to the Arizona Moneyline offer I am suggesting.
Arizona is a perfect 5 – 0 in the MLB Playoffs, and they have been underdogs on each and every occasion.
I do expect Wheeler to strike out a handful of batters because if you look over his body of work for the 2023 campaign he just struck out 10 Braves in his last outing despite the Braves’ comeback to win that affair, 5 – 4. It was the only game that the Braves won in the series with the Phillies in the NLDS, but Wheeler was certainly not to blame as the bullpen blew the late lead and it simply turned into a no-decision.
Combined with the D’Backs Moneyline and Wheeler to K 5+ dudes, the one guy he might struggle with is Tommy Pham in the Arizona lineup on Monday night.
Pham tore the cover off of the baseball in the NLDS against the Dodgers, and I think he will be able to, at least, pick up one hit against Wheeler that contributes to a Game 1 win for his club.
Pham is one of three players with 7 hits in the MLB post-season for Arizona, as he, Ketel Marte, and Corbin Carroll have all done some serious damage to opposing pitchers. With so many guys seeing the ball that well, I expect all three of them to grab a hit in Game 1 but I’ll pick Pham out to put in this same-game parlay for Game 1 of the NLCS between the Phillies and Diamondbacks on Monday night.
