The 4-6 San Francisco Giants host the 6-5 Los Angeles Dodgers at Oracle Park on Tuesday night. One of the fiercest rivalries in American sports has been limited to fewer games with the alterations to the MLB schedule. Los Angeles took an early advantage in the season series on Monday with a 9-1 drubbing of the Giants.
San Francisco has gone a 1-3 on its first homestand of the year, scoring a grand total of three runs in those losses.
Max Muncy starred for Los Angeles on Monday, crushing a pair of homers to improve his remarkable record against the Giants. Muncy batted in seven of the Dodgers’ nine runs.

Former elite prospect Dustin May matches up with ex-Dodger Alex Wood in game two of this series. May is finally healthy after two injury-disrupted seasons, and is yet to give up a run through 13 frames. He has allowed just five hits in that period, forcing a lot of weak contact. Naturally, he has ridden some luck to not give up any runs at all, but May has excellent stuff and faces a Giants line up which has been incredibly inconsistent.
Over two of their games against the White Sox, San Francisco put up 26 runs. They have scored a grand total of 22 across their other eight games this season.
Wood has only one start to his name in 2023, but it wasn’t a great one. The unorthodox southpaw pitched three innings, and his control was far from his normal standards. He had a 5.74 xERA. Wood has also struggled against the Dodgers throughout his career, allowing an .825 OPS. Look for the road team to roll out a very right-handed heavy line up.
The Dodgers lead the Majors in walk rate. They will force Wood out of this game early on. While the Giants have some pitching depth on paper, their run prevention hasn’t been great to start the year.
San Francisco, meanwhile, is striking out more than any other team. There is power in this offence, but getting base runners is going to be a challenge with how May is pitching.
Some early struggles for the Dodgers’ bullpen might be the Giants’ best chance here. It’s likely they will be trailing through the first few innings. With the way they have been hitting, though, this game could well be out of hand by the time we get to the seventh-inning stretch.
It’s no surprise that the Dodgers are the stronger of these two teams. It is also a pitching matchup heavily in their favour. At 2.05, there’s great value on the road team to make it two wins from two at Oracle Park.
