The Chicago Bulls host the Milwaukee Bucks at United Center for Game Three of their first round series. Due to tip off on April, 23rd at 01:30 (UK time), it’s tied up at one game apiece. Milwaukee was heavily favoured coming into this series, but they have been dealt a blow with news of Khris Middleton’s injury.

Despite Middleton’s absence, the Bucks are still favoured by 1.5 for Game Three. The total is up at 223.5 at Bet365 – only 179 points were scored in the series opener, followed by 224 in the Bulls’ Game Two win.

Not only was avoiding a 2-0 deficit important for the Bulls. Getting a win over Milwaukee was a confidence boost for a franchise which hadn’t beaten Giannis Antetokounmpo since 2017. DeMar DeRozan put in a big performance with 41 points, and they were able to almost match the Bucks on the boards despite the Greek Freak grabbing 18 rebounds on his own.

Antetokounmpo has 34 boards through two games this series. With a rebounds line of 13.5 for Game Three, it’s an easy over to back. Chicago simply has no one with the athleticism to compete with the two-time MVP on the glass.

With no Middleton, though, the Bulls’ margin for error increases considerably. Antetokounmpo needs to go supernova to compensate for the loss of 20 points and five assists per game. While they have shooters to fill Middleton’s spot in the line up, it is a big ask for Jrue Holiday and Antetokounmpo to up their production so significantly.

Alex Caruso is going to spend most of the game matched up with Holiday, who will have the ball in his hands even more than usual. Caruso already has six steals and blocks through two games, including four steals in Game Two. Over 1.5 steals and blocks is a safe addition to this bet builder – Milwaukee has 36 turnovers through two games.

Losing Middleton not only impacts Milwaukee’s offence. He is their second-best defender on the perimeter, and leaves Mike Budenholzer with a matchup dilemma on Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. Who does Holiday guard? Does Antetokounmpo take one of the assignments?

DeRozan is the clear number one on the team right now. He just dropped 41, seven and four, yet his points, rebounds and assists line is set at 40.5. Given the role he takes on as a playmaker and the importance of his rebounding in smaller line ups, we like him to hit that over.

Chicago Bulls vs Milwaukee Bucks Bet Builder

  • Milwaukee Bucks +5.5
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo over 13.5 rebounds
  • Alex Caruso over 1.5 steals and blocks
  • DeMar DeRozan over 40.5 points, rebounds and assists

While this series becomes a lot more competitive with Middleton sidelined, the Bucks still have enough to progress. Antetokounmpo and Holiday is a dominant two-way pairing, and their defence can still play at a high level.

Chicago remains a flawed team, alarmingly vulnerable on the defensive end and heavily reliant on the mid-range shooting of DeRozan and LaVine. There is a degree of unpredictability about where this series goes from here, but bettors can feel confident that the Bucks will at least be able to stay in the game. We like the defending champions on the alternate line at +5.5 or get this bet builder at 9/1 if you fancy Antetokounmpo to power Milwaukee to a crucial Game Three win.
