Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks Best Bet: Monday, November 21st

We’ve been great this season with our NBA Best Bets, pushing a 13.7% ROI so far, and we’re going to keep the ball rolling tonight with another. The Cavs host the Hawks in the first match-up of the evening, and this will be their first encounter of the season. They faced each other in the preseason when the Cavs took the 105-99 win, but the Hawks are in great shape at the moment.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks Preview

Mon Nov 21st 23:00. (UK time)

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a solid start to the season with a record of 10-6, and they are now 4th in the Eastern Conference standings. Their recent form hasn’t exactly been great, especially on the road, but they are now back at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for a 4-game homestand. The Cavs have won just 4 of their 9 road games, but they have been excellent at home, winning 6 of 7. This will be the 3rd game of their homestand, having beaten the Hornets by 132-122 and the Miami Heat by 113-87.

The Cavs have quietly been one of the best teams in the NBA this year, ranking 3rd in NET rating as well as top-5 in both offensive and defensive rating. They have averaged 115.7 points per game with a 3-point field goal percentage of 39.1% and 25 assists per game. On defence, the Cavs have also been terrific, allowing just 108.6 points per game and keeping opponents to 45.7% from the field. Their perimeter defence hasn’t been the best, but on the interior, they’ve kept opponents to 51.7% (8th in the NBA).

For the Hawks, it’s been a great start to the season too, and they’re looking like that team we saw a couple of seasons ago that made the conference finals. The Hawks are 3rd in the conference with 10 wins and 6 losses and are coming off a 124-122 home win against the Toronto Raptors. This is a considerable improvement compared to last season when they finished with a win percentage of 52.4, with this number going up to 62.5%. There’s still a lot of basketball to be played, but the Hawks are certainly on the right path.

The Hawks have definitely been solid this year, but there are some aspects of their game that could hurt them tonight against the Cavs. The Hawks have a positive road record so far, winning 4 of their 7 games, but they’ve only covered the spread in 3. Whilst their offence is fast-paced and efficient, scoring 115.2 points per game on 47.8% shooting, their defence has been lacking. Allowing 114.4 points, 90.2 field goals per game, as well as 26.6 free throws per game. The Hawks’ interior defence isn’t good, they foul a lot and fail to prevent opponents from scoring in the paint, allowing 52.8 points per game 25th in the NBA).

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks Best Bet

The Cavs are slightly favoured to run away with this one at 1.77 odds, whilst the visitors are available at 2.25. The spread is at 2.5 points and the points total is set at 224.5.

As good as both teams have been, I’ll have to give the edge to the Cavs this time. They don’t shoot a lot of threes, and they get a lot of points in the paint, which is where the Hawks struggle to defend. The Cavs make their free throws and most importantly, they play very good defence. Yes, they played last night, but their top players didn’t play a lot of minutes, and I don’t expect fatigue to be a big factor here.

They covered the spread in 5 of their 7 home games, with 1 loss and 1 push. I’m backing them to get the job done ATS again.
