Detroit Pistons vs Indiana Pacers Best Bet: Rolling Pacers To Cover On The Road

Detroit Pistons vs Indiana Pacers Best Bet: Monday, March 13th
The 31-37 Indiana Pacers are 3.5-point road favourites against the 15-53 Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Detroit’s campaign was essentially over when Cade Cunningham suffered a season-ending injury. For months, their attention has been firmly fixed on player development and the chance to draft French phenom Victor Wembanyama.
Indiana were meant to be a lottery lock at the start of the season. The reality has been very different, largely thanks to the All-Star play of Tyrese Haliburton. The Pacers extended Myles Turner instead of selling at the deadline, and continue to fight hard for a Play-In sport even after dropping off the pace earlier this year.

Part of the reason the line is just 3.5 is the Pacers’ absences, however, including Haliburton. Bennedict Mathurin, Turner and T.J. McConnell are also listed as out, perhaps raising suspicions that they would rather not be in the postseason.
Detroit, though, is depleted to an even greater extent. Jaden Ivey, Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks, Marvin Bagley, Cunningham, Isaiah Stewart and Hamidou Diallo are all out for the hosts. The Pistons have not won since February 10th.
Indiana won this exact matchup by six points two days ago even with so many core players missing. Buddy Hield, who is also on the injury report as day-to-day, was accompanied by Andrew Nembhard Isaiah Jackson and Jalen Smith in scoring 15+ points.
Both teams are miles from their full-strength rosters. Indiana’s players missing are arguably of a higher quality. Their depth, too, is superior to the Pistons, which is why they are favoured on the road. Hield, Chris Duarte, Nembhard, Smith, Aaron Nesmith and other complementary pieces are far more polished NBA players than Killian Hayes and James Wiseman, who are both set to start again for Detroit.
While the roster is weaker than it has been for much of that stretch, Indiana is still 5-3 since All-Star and 14th in net rating. Detroit is 0-9. Only the Rockets, Blazers and Spurs have a worse net rating than the Pistons over that period.

Just four places separate these teams in the East, but they really are miles apart. The injuries might cancel each other out, leaving Indiana’s superior depth to go up against a Pistons team focused on the development of Wiseman, Jalen Duren and Hayes.
The Pacers have lost 16 fewer games than Detroit this season, and have a 9-8 record against the spread as favourites. There are only three teams who have covered less frequently as a home dog than Detroit.
There is value at -3.5 even with Haliburton, Mathurin and Turner missing out. You only have to go back a couple of days to find a weakened Pacers covering this number in Motor City.
