Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals takes place at Chase Center on June 2nd. It’s a late one for British fans with a 02:00 tip-off, but it’s poised to be an entertaining game to start off a hotly anticipated Finals. The Golden State Warriors are favoured by 3.5 points over the Boston Celtics at Bet365 – the Dubs are in the Finals for the sixth time in eight years, while none of the Celtics have played on this stage before.

Golden State has a 9-0 record at home in these playoffs and has lost just two Game 1s in the Steve Kerr era. Boston has notched big road wins in each series, yet teams have a tendency to struggle at the start of the series against the Warriors.

Kerr’s team play a different brand of basketball at both ends of the floor, and there will likely be a period of adaptation for the Celtics. This series will be a stark contrast to the bruising, seven-game duels they had with the Bucks and Heat. We’re backing the Dubs to clock another Game 1 win.

This is going to be a chess match between Kerr and Ime Udoka, keeping some cards close to their chest and experimenting schematically at both ends of the floor. The possession battle is going to be a point of focus for both coaches – these teams excel at forcing turnovers, and they can both be careless with the ball. The size and length of the Celtics should help them get into the Warriors’ passing lanes.

Draymond Green is often the hub of the Warriors’ offence, and Boston isn’t going to back off him as much as other teams have done. Green’s turnovers line is set at 2.5 – he’s gone over that number in five of his last seven. We’re backing him to have three-plus giveaways once again.

Golden State Warriors vs Boston Celtics Builder Tips

  • Warriors Moneyline
  • Draymond Green Over 2.5 turnovers
  • Kevon Looney Over 11.5 rebounds and assists
  • Grant Williams Over 1.5 threes

Odds as at 4 pm June 2nd. Odds may now differ.

With turnovers an issue for both teams, the rebounding battle is going to be significant to earn extra possessions. Golden State has been phenomenal on the boards all postseason, and lineups with Kevon Looney have been dominant at both ends on the glass. Looney has reached double-figure rebounds in four of his last six, including an 18-rebound effort in Game 5 against the Mavericks.

The Warriors centre is also picking up a few assists off smart interior passes and their trademark split actions. We’re backing Looney to have over 11.5 rebounds and assists.

Looney’s rebounding case is aided by how limited Robert Williams was in Game 7. There are going to be a lot of smaller lineups from the Cs, and Grant Williams should see his minutes total get back into the thirties. Williams shot the ball poorly in the Conference Finals, but he could get a lot of open looks with the Warriors quickly getting into rotation when Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown have the ball.

Golden State will close out and contest, though they will be relatively happy to force Grant Williams to take outside shots if it takes the ball out of Tatum and Brown’s hands. There’s great value on Williams making over 1.5 threes despite his slump of late, and it takes us to 12.00 on our Game 1 bet builder.
