The Milwaukee Bucks take on the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Fiserv Forum hoping to get their opponents on the ropes and earn a 3-1 lead. But the Celtics have been one of the best defensive teams in the league all season long, and I expect another intense battle between these two sides. I’ve got a 4-piece bet builder ready for tonight, so take a look at the article below for my analysis & Bet Builder Tips.
In this article:
The Milwaukee Bucks are 3rd favourites to go all the way this year at 5.35 odds and are available at 1.60 odds to win this series. They’re up 2-1 after game 3 on Friday and are enjoying home-court advantage coming into this one. But with Kris Middleton still out with a knee injury, the bookies have them to win tonight at 1.86 odds. Not bad. The Bucks finished the regular season 3rd in the east whilst ranking 8th in NET rating, but the defending NBA champions easily dispatched the Chicago Bulls in Round 1, and are a step away from going up 3-1 in this series. Don’t underestimate Mike Budenholzer.
But the Boston Celtics have been tearing it up this season, finishing 2nd in the east and boasting the 2nd-best defence in the league that allowed just 104.5 points per game. The bookmakers place them 5th in line to lift the NBA championship title at 8.00 odds, and they are available at 2.45 odds to bounce back and win the series. The Celtics have played excellent defence all season long and this has translated into the playoffs. What’s more, their dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown has performed extremely well both in the regular season and the playoffs, allowing them to sweep the Brooklyn Nets in the first round.

The Bucks have been the better team so far in the series, and they are very close to bringing this match-up to a close. They stole Game 1 at TD Garden, and also took care of business in Game 3 at Fiserv Forum. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been phenomenal for the Bucks in the absence of their second scoring option and is coming off a 42-point & 8 assist performance last time around. Jrue Holliday has also picked up the slack recently, going for 25 points and 3 assists in Game 3. The Bucks have been one of the best performers this playoff tournament, ranking 1st in defensive rating by a mile, and sitting 2nd in NET rating, just behind the Warriors.
But the Boston Celtics came very close to winning Game 3, coming up short by just 2 points. They have the 3rd-best ranked defence in the tournament, and they are more than capable of bouncing back tonight. It’s very difficult to choose a winner in this game, but one thing is certain – defence will be key. Jayson Tatum was terrible from the field last time around, scoring just 10 points, shooting 4-19 from the field and 0-6 from downtown. His points line is set at 28.5, but with the complexion of the series so far, backing overs hasn’t been a very good idea. This game could very well end up being the most important in the series, and the only way the Cs can get the dub tonight is if they play their signature lockdown defence, just as they did against the Nets.
Bet Builder is available at odds of 7.50
Odds as at 2 pm May 9th. Odds may now differ.
This series has been the epitome of playoff basketball so far, with all 3 games seeing very low scoring numbers. Games 1 and 2 saw 190 and 195 points respectively, whilst game 3 went for 204. I see the 209.5 point line as extremely high, and I’m expecting more of the same tonight – an easy under.
Jrue Holiday has been tasked with helping Giannis with the scoring load, and he has been delivering. However, his assist number have taken a dip, and he is coming off a 3-assist game last game. I expect Mike Budenholzer to ask Jrue to step up his scoring once against, which will result in the under.
Al Horford has averaged 1.3 blocks per game during the regular season and 1.6 in this series. Defence will be Boston’s biggest focus point tonight, and I expect big Al to get big minutes once again. He got 2 rejections last game, and I’m backing him to get at least one rejection tonight.
Despite having an excellent season for the Bucks, Grayson Allen has had a tough time producing points in this series. He finished Game 2 with 5 points, took just 3 field-goal attempts in Game 3 and finished with 0 points on the board. Boston have done a great job in preventing Allen from getting easy looks, and I see the 9.5 points as too high all things considered.
