The Milwaukee Bucks are in Boston to face the Celtics for Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series on Tuesday night. Tipping off at midnight (UK time), Boston is under severe pressure to avoid going 2-0 down before the series heads to Wisconsin.
In this article:
The Cs are 4.5-point favourites. The total is set at 215.5 despite just 190 points being scored in Game 1, including the Cs putting up just 89. It’s the fewest points Boston has scored in a game since a December, 29th loss to the Clippers when Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart were unavailable. Romeo Langford got the start and played 27 minutes.
Boston was on a 15-3 run at home prior to their Game 1 loss, dating back to mid-January. This is a team which has been utterly dominant in 2022, and managed to sweep Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets in the first round. The size of Milwaukee posed them some problems, and despite a relatively cold shooting night, Giannis Antetokounmpo was completely dominant with a 24-point triple-double.

According to data from ShotQuality.com, Game 1 was closer than the 12-point margin suggested. Milwaukee shot pretty much as expected, but Boston’s ShotQuality Score was 99. The Cs scored 10 fewer. As they have done for several seasons, the Bucks conceded a lot of open threes, but they were selective in who was taking the shots, forcing Boston’s role players to beat them.
Al Horford got up nine three-point attempts at the weekend. The Bucks will be happy to see Horford shoot that much, even though he made four of them. The former Hawk is a good bet to make over 1.5 threes.
Interestingly, the Shot Quality numbers make the under look like a really good bet for Game 2. Even if Boston had shot better, the projected score would have taken us to just 201 total points, a long way shy of the 215.5. We’re backing the under

Of course, we’ve got to get Antetokounmpo involved in some form for Game 2. He has been phenomenal in this postseason once again, and he hit his assists over before half-time in the series opener. Boston isn’t forced to double as aggressively as other defences because they can trust their individuals to a degree, but Antetokounmpo delivered a masterclass at picking apart a defence at the weekend.
Feeding it to Bobby Portis or kicking out to Wes Matthews, Grayson Allen or Pat Connaughton, the two-time MVP was seeing and executing passes to perfection. He’s recorded over 6.5 assists in four of his last five, and looks a good bet to do so again on Tuesday night.
Portis replaced Khris Middleton in the starting line up in the last round. Mike Budenholzer stuck with Portis for the second round, and the decision paid dividends. He has four consecutive double-doubles, and boasts a scoring average over 15 in that period while shooting 49% from the field.
An effective rebounder at both ends, Portis has reached double-digit boards five times in this postseason already. Only five players are averaging more rebounds per game. It’s a surprise to see such long odds on Portis to notch another double-double. We’re adding it to our bet builder, taking us to 14/1.
