On the second night of a road back-to-back, the Philadelphia 76ers are 1.5-point favourites over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota has won three games in a row, yet remains without Karl-Anthony Towns. Jaylen Nowell is also out for the hosts, with Austin Rivers listed as probable.
For Philly, it is unclear if P.J. Tucker and Tobias Harris will suit up after missing the win over Indiana on Monday night. Bettors might be cautious about James Harden or Joel Embiid sitting out, too, but the Sixers have a couple of days off after this one and will be desperate to keep winning in their pursuit of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics at the top of the Eastern Conference.
The Timberwolves are currently sixth in the West, but they are only two ahead of 13th in the loss column.

In some ways, the standings are a bit misleading for the Sixers. Since the start of December, only the Nuggets have a better winning percentage. They are even better than their third place in the East indicates. The defence is elite when it wants to be, and the offence has been torching opponents, led by the unguardable two-man game between Harden and Embiid.
Unsurprisingly, that combination makes the Sixers the league leaders in free throw rate. Minnesota is bottom-10 in free throws conceded per field goal attempt. Embiid has historically had success against Rudy Gobert, including a 32-point outing earlier this term and a 40 and 19 showing in 2020-21.
The Timberwolves have a top-10 defence since the turn of the year, but they are down in 20th over the last 10 games. Philadelphia’s options to guard Anthony Edwards are depleted if Tucker and (to a lesser extent) Harris are out, yet do the T-Wolves have enough on offence to keep pace with Philly? The Sixers are coming off a performance in Indiana where Embiid again dropped 40+ and Harden recorded 20 assists.
Minnesota’s 20-14 home record is the biggest threat to this wager. Philly, though, has been great on the road, going 18-12.

The Sixers are even 7-5 straight up with a rest disadvantage and 12-5 when favoured on the road. Since their slow start, they have lived up to their preseason reputation as a regular season juggernaut.
This price seems to be accounting for the risk of load management with Embiid and/or Harden. With Embiid still fighting for MVP and the Sixers keen to move up in the standings, we’re expecting the star duo to play. Philly might be flawed, but they are the far superior of these two teams at the moment. At 1.83, there’s good value here.
