After an amazing start to the 2021/22 season, the Washington Wizards have fallen off a cliff, and are now 11th in the eastern conference with 27 wins and 33 losses. They are on a 2-game losing streak and coming off a tough 92-86 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Wizards have consistently ranked 20th in the league in offensive rating, and their defence has been even worse, ranking 24th in defensive rating and allowing 110.3 points per game. The Wizards are a slow team, but with Kristaps Porzingis and Bradley beal still, out, their offence is left to fend for itself. The Wizards haven’t been particularly good ATS at home this year, covering in 14 of 31 games, and just 4 of their last 10. I don’t trust the Wizards on either side of the floor, and with 91% of bettors backing them tonight, it’s best to stay away.

But the Detroit Pistons have been on fire recently, covering the spread in 4 of their last 5 games, and pulling off 3 upsets during the process. Their overall performances have been respectable, ranking 19th in NET rating in the last 5 games, as opposed to 30th- their overall rank on the season. Their young core of Sadiq Bey, Cade Cunningham and Jerami Grant has been performing very well recently, especially when facing meagre defensive sides. They had an unusually bad shooting night last time they faced the Wizards, resulting in a 9-point loss, but I expect them to bounce back and get the job done on the road. Their overall record against the spread this year hasn’t been terrific on the road, but in situations like this, they are definitely worth backing.

It’s been a very difficult 2021/22 season for the Los Angeles Lakers, and they are showing no signs of life heading into the final stretch of the season. They are now 9th in the west with just 3 wins in their last 10 games and riding a 2-game losing streak. Despite being the 4th-fastest team in the NBA, the Lakers are 12th in points per game with 110.5, and a dismal 14.8 turnovers per game. The absence of Anthony Davis in this game will be a huge blow for the Lakers, and for a team that has covered the spread in just 39% of their home games this season, I expect more of the same going forward.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been one of the best teams in the NBA recently, with 7 wins in their last 10 games, and covering the spread in 8 of their last 10. The addition of Spencer Dinwiddie to the squad has given their offence a nice scoring sixth man, and their usually terrible offence has ranked 7th in the NBA in their last 5 games. Their defence has been excellent all season, allowing just 103.4 points per game, and keeping opponents to just 33.6% from beyond the arc, whilst forcing 16.0 turnovers per game. Most importantly, the Dallas Mavericks have been one of the top teams against the spread on the road this year, covering the spread in 60.0% of their games, and I have no problem backing them against the struggling Lakers.
