It was another dry Monday night yesterday with only 5 NBA games on the docket, so the Best Bets have been moved to today. With 10 games scheduled for tonight, there are more than enough betting opportunities, albeit not too much value. The 3 selections are the best of the bunch, and considering the odds given by the bookies, they have the most value.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Phoenix Suns Best Bet

The Philadelphia 76ers have won 7 of their last 10 games, and are coming off a 108-119 win against the Chicago Bulls. They have fared well enough at Wells Fargo Center this season, but it’s not like they can be considered an elite team. They have ranked 15th in offensive and 10th in defensive rating this season, whilst also being the 4th-slowest team in the league with a pace rating of just 95.8. But they have covered the spread in just 10 of their 25 home games, and they’ve lost all 4 of their last encounters against the Suns. Despite this, the 76ers are the favourites to win this one at 1.76 odds, and it’s simply not worth it.

Any situation where the Phoenix Suns are underdogs is definitely worth backing. They are sitting atop the western conference with 9 wins in their last 10 games and coming off a nice road win against the Chicago Bulls. Although their defence has been average in their last 10 games, their offence is still red-hot, ranking 3rd in the league and averaging 114.9 points per game. The Suns have been elite on the road this year, with a record of 21-5 and covering the spread in 16. They are an excellent team that has a nice combination of experienced players and young talent, and their shooting has been off the charts this season, ranking 4th in effective field-goal percentage with 54.3%. The Suns provide excellent value as a road underdog, particularly at odds of 2.10, and I have no problem backing them tonight.

Tip: Phoenix Suns to Win at 2.10 odds

Dallas Mavericks vs Detroit Pistons Best Bet

The Dallas Mavericks are still sitting 5h in the western conference and are looking to continue cruising all the way to the playoffs. They won their last 2 games against the 76ers and Atlanta Hawks, but their performance hasn’t been as good as they would have liked recently, The Mavs’ defence has faltered a bit in the last 10 games, dropping to 9th place in defensive rating, whilst their offence has been consistently bad all season, averaging only 106.2 points per game on 33.5% on 3-pointers. The Mavericks are also the 3rd-slowest team in the league with a pace rating of just 95.8, and 9.6 fastbreak points per game. But they are heavy favourites to win at 1.13 odds, and with 96% of bettors backing them, the Mavs are unbackable tonight.

The Detroit Pistons are 14th in the east with just 12 wins and 41 losses this season, and have won just 2 of their last 10 games.  Although they have struggled on both sides of the floor all season, the Pistons have improved their offensive performance, ranking 18th in the NBA in the last 10 games, with 24.5 assists per game. But let’s face it, the only reason this team has value is that they are heavy underdogs, and very few bettors bother to back them on any given night. The Pistons like to push the pace which can be a very useful tool against the much slower Mavericks, and at 6.25 odds to win, they provide solid value.

Tip: Detroit Pistons +11.5 at 1.94 odds

LA Lakers vs Milwaukee Bucks Best Bet

The Los Angeles Lakers are having a very difficult season, hovering around 9th place in the west with 26 wins and 28 losses. The Lakers love to push the pace, but they also commit an average of 14.7 turnovers per game and are quite average when it comes to scoring efficiency. They started the season as one of the top defensive teams in the NBA, but they have allowed 109.6 points per game in the last 10 games, with an opponent field goal percentage of 46.9%. The Lakers have a solid home record of 17 wins and 12 losses, but they have only covered the spread in 12 of those games, and they especially struggle against high scoring teams.

And the Milwaukee Bucks are exactly that. With an average of 117.5 points in their last 10 games, the Bucks are 2nd in the league at the moment, and they are one of the most efficient teams in the league. They are rock solid on both sides of the floor, allowing 108.7 points and grabbing 7.3 steals per game. The Bucks have won 7 of their last 10 games and are riding a 3-game winning streak. They are coming off a dominant 137-113 victory over the Clippers, and they have covered the spread in 63.2% of their games when they were away favourites. The Bucks are a no-nonsense team, and I expect them to use their solid perimeter defence to get another dominant victory over the struggling Lakers.

Tip: Milwaukee Bucks -4.5 at 1.90 odds
