As expected, the Orlando Magic are not among the top teams in the Eastern Conference, and it is evident that they will not be doing much winning this year. In fact, they have yet to win an NBA game almost 2 weeks into the season and are sitting dead last in the conference standings. They were close to getting that first dub against the Pistons, but even Banchero’s 27-point and 5-assist night wasn’t enough.
The Orlando Magic are 28th in the NBA in points per game, averaging just 104.2 per game, whilst only making 29.9% of their shots from beyond the arc. That said, they faced the Cavs, Celtics and Knicks in their last 3 – all solid if not elite defensive sides to start the season. The Magic went for 120 points against the Celtics, and they certainly have scoring talent. Their night should be made much easier by the Charlotte Hornets, and here’s why.
The Persians, I mean the Charlotte Hornets are the hottest attacking team in the league right now, averaging 124.5 points per game, easily ranking them atop the league in that regard. The absence of Miles Bridges hasn’t made an impact on their style of play, with the team having a 102.1 pace rating and attempting 95.0 field goals per game. Their top scorer so far has been Scary Terry with 23.5 points per game, followed closely by Gordon Hayward with 19.8
The Hornets are currently 9th in the east with a 2-2 record and are coming off a close 134-131 loss to the New York Knicks. It hasn’t been the perfect start, with LaMelo and Terry suffering through some early injuries, but the Hornets are keeping it together quite well, and their offence has been buzzing. However, as always, the Charlotte Hornets are not playing any defence whatsoever. Allowing 117.3 points, 43.3 made field goals and 27.0 free-throw attempts per game isn’t going to get you to the playoffs, or anywhere else for that matter. Surprisingly enough, their perimeter defence has been good, allowing just 8.5 threes per game, but we will see how this holds up in a larger sample size.

Sure, they will score 120 points, but chances are they will give up just as many. The Orlando Magic are a young team playing at home on a Friday night, and that’s always a recipe for success.
