We are only a month into the NBA season, and the 76ers are already down two of their three best players. Harden and Maxey are OUT tonight. However, they won 3 straight games, so can Embiid carry this team to another victory?

76ers had a poor start to the season, losing 3 games, but they have won 8 out of the 12 games since. Most of these wins were due to outstanding performances by Joel Embiid, who scored 38.4 points on average over the last 5 games while playing great defence. Their defensive rating moved from 25th during the first 3 games to the current 3rd-best defensive rating in the league.
On the other hand, the Timberwolves struggle with a defence even though they brought 3-time defensive player Rudy Gobert this summer. They currently have the 15th-best defensive rating, which is average, but they’ve had the easiest schedule, playing teams like Magic, Rockets, Lakers, Spurs, and Thunders. The Wolves won only 3 games out of the last 9, and two wins were against weak teams like Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic. So playing the 76ers without two of their best players is undoubtedly a great spot to get a win tonight.
Joel Embiid is getting a tough matchup tonight, going against Rudy Gobert, but there is an excellent spot to take here. Embiid primarily operates around the elbow and nail, which pulls out his guard from the paint, and that’s why the 76ers allow the most rebounds to opposing power forwards. Rudy Gobert is one of the best rebounders in the game, getting 12.5 rebounds on average, so with him being away from the rim, someone will need to take those rebounds, and my bet is on Towns. He also had over 7.5 rebounds in 9 of the last 10 games.
With Harden and Maxey out, the 76ers are giving Melton and Thybulle massive minutes, and they are great defensive players, so Edwards and Russell will have tough matchups tonight. In the last 3 games against Embiid, Towns scored 25, 28, and 39 points, and I expect him to continue with great scoring performances tonight. He also covered this line in 10 out of the last 12 games this season.
