The defending NBA champions and the team which had the best record in the regular season last year are duelling in Arizona on Tuesday night. Golden State and Phoenix are both 2-1, having each faced three teams expected to compete for the top 10 spots in the Western Conference.
With the Warriors clinging on for a win over the Sacramento Kings last time out, the Suns are 2.5-point favourites for this matchup. Phoenix has its core rotation players healthy, though Jae Crowder is still waiting for a trade after a tumultuous offseason. Golden State is without Donte DiVincenzo and Andre Iguodala.

The Dubs’ only loss this season was by just five points. They were just 22-27-2 against the spread on the road last season, while Phoenix was a regular season winning machine, but Golden State has improved since then, with James Wiseman and Klay Thompson now healthy. The Suns have started well, beating both the Mavericks and Clippers, but there is naturally some scepticism about this team with Chris Paul starting the season slowly.
To get the ball rolling with this bet builder, we are going to give the Warriors a few points. Golden State is going to tempt many bettors straight up, but we like the cushion just in case the Suns deliver in the clutch again.
A lot is made of the backcourt contest between Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul and Jordan Poole, but Deandre Ayton is perhaps the most important player in this one.
Ayton’s size has been a problem for the Warriors, and that will be the case even with Kevon Looney and James Wiseman available. Ayton averages 18.2 points and 10.2 rebounds against the Warriors. He’s also seeing his role grow on offence in general, and that is bound to continue in a favourable matchup. Phoenix’s five is good value to clock over 28.5 points and rebounds.
While Paul hasn’t been at his best on offence, he is still up at 2.7 steals per game. Golden State, as is a natural symptom of Steve Kerr’s offence, are in the bottom five in turnovers. The future Hall of Fame point guard had seven steals across four games against the Warriors last season.

Turning to the Warriors, we have to get Curry involved here. Coming off his first Finals MVP, the greatest shooter in NBA history has posted three straight 30-point games to start the season, and will be flying all over the court on Tuesday night. Golden State’s offence has been humming in the first three games, with their ball-movement at its unstoppable best, creating space for Curry. Phoenix is a great defensive team, but Curry is still going a tonne of looks.
If Golden State are to at least keep close in this one, Curry scoring 20 or more points seems all but guaranteed. He had 20 or more points in 45 of his 64 regular season games in 2021-22, and that was higher (18 of 22) in the playoffs.
