Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers Best Bet: Wednesday, March 22nd

The Utah Jazz are taking on the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at Vivint Smart Home Arena hoping to continue their winning streak and improve their playoff position. They have been in great shape recently, but have lost 2 of their 3 games against the Blazers this year. Will the Portland Trail Blazers snap their 6-game losing streak or will the Utah Jazz even out the series and get the home win?

Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers Preview

Thu, Mar 23rd. 01:00 (UK time)

When the Utah Jazz made all those trades this past summer, it looked like they were getting ready for a rebuild, but they have surprised everyone and are actually trying to make the playoffs. They are 10th in the Western Conference with a 35-36 record, and are on a 2-game winning streak at the moment. This will be the third of their 4-game homestand and the Jazz would love to get the win tonight at home and even out the series. The Jazz are facing some injury issues, with both Clarkson and Sexton out for tonight, but they have been managing very well without their guards, and are coming off a 128-120 win against the Sacramento Kings.

The Utah Jazz have been playing some very good basketball lately, winning 4 of their last 5 games and covering the spread in their last 6 games in a row. They have ranked 9th in net rating over the last 5 games, as well as 1st in offensive rating. Granted, defence isn’t their bread and butter, allowing 117.3 points per game this season, but if their offence keeps rolling tonight, this shouldn’t be much of a problem. They have a pace rating of 100.1 ranking them 12th in the NBA, and giving them 104.2 possessions per game.

The Portland Trail Blazers are struggling again. They are 13th in the conference with a 31-40 record. They are 2-8 over their last 10 games, and are currently on a 6-game losing streak. This will be the first of their 6-game road trip and we can expect this skid to continue. They are coming off a 102-117 home loss to the LA Clippers, and to make matter worse, Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant are listed as out for tonight. Nassir Little is also listed as questionable due to a concussion.

The Blazers have ranked 29th in net rating over the last 5 games and they are struggling on both sides of the floor. Their efficient offence has dropped down to 28th in the league during this period and their already shaky defence is now allowing 122.6 points per game. The Blazers are a slow team that gets 101.6 possessions per game (26th in NBA), and I don’t think they have enough to contend against the Jazz here. They are 14-22 on the road and with the spread set at just 4 points, I don’t see much value in backing the Blazers.

Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers Best Bet

The Utah Jazz are in really good shape right now and fighting to clinch a playoff spot. They play faster, get more possessions, score more and have been in great form when playing at home recently. With their injury issues, the Blazers don’t have enough firepower to keep up with Utah’s explosive offence, and I’m backing the Jazz to cover the 4-point spread.
