Today’s Racing Tips – June 3rd

There is some welcome quality on show on Friday, as the big Epsom Derby meeting begins and some fantastic prize money attracts runners from the top yards in the country. The big betting race of the afternoon is the Cazoo Epsom Oaks at 4.30pm, with this Group 1 having a long and illustrious history and the 2022 renewal looking a very good one (current favourite Emily Upjohn looks to have stablemate Nashwa to beat judged on the early market).

Elsewhere on the card there is the Group 1 Coronation Cup at 3.10pm, while there are some very tough handicaps to solve throughout the day. Other meetings are on at Bath, Catterick, Doncaster and Goodwood, while jumps fans can study the action at Huntingdon and Market Rasen on a very busy day.

Aidan O’Brien’s filly has shaped well in defeat in warm company on both starts so far this season, and is open to plenty of improvement now upped to 1m4f for the first time. She caught a real tartar in Homeless Songs in the Irish 1000 Guineas 12 days ago, travelling strongly up on the pace but completely swamped for pace by the high class winner. There is plenty left in the tank after just four career starts so far, and she makes much more appeal at the prices than the Gosden trained pair of Emily Upjohn and Nashwa.

Owen Burrows classy performer has now won 8 of his 14 career starts, and is worth forgiving a lesser effort at Meydan in March (run may have come too soon and finished with running left in the tank from a poor early position). He impressed on soft ground when winning the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge at Ascot last October, storming home alone by over six
lengths, and the rain that fell earlier in the week at Epsom has certainly increased his chance under regular rider Jim Crowley.
