Today’s Racing Tips – May 21st

There are 8 races on ITV on Saturday, with top class flat racing from Goodwood, Haydock and York. The Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock is sure to attract some of the best sprinters in the country, with the race having substantial prize money and a long history of very smart winners over the years.

Most recently the prolific Battash has landed the contest twice, with wins in 2018 and 2019, while in 2021 John Quinn’s talented Liberty Beach proved a popular victor for the punters. Elsewhere there are some ultra competitive handicaps to study, though a keen weather watch is recommended with plenty of rain in the forecast across the country in the lead up to the weekend.

13:45	GOODWOOD	FIND	Richard Hannon’s colt just needed the run after 8 months off the track at Ascot last month, and he remains with upside after just four career starts so far.
14:00	HAYDOCK	MIRANDA	This late maturing 3-y-o looked well above average when landing the odds at Ayr last month, and might just be underestimated stepping up to listed company at Newmarket on Saturday (with the Haggas yard in blistering form as usual and plenty of improvement likely upped to 1m2f).
14:15	GOODWOOD	BRENTFORD HOPE	Andrew Balding’s useful performer was entitled to need the run on his return at Sandown 22 days ago, and shaped there as sure to be winning plenty of races in the coming weeks. He is a smooth traveller with the odd quirk off the bridle, but should be able to be produced late in this valuable Group 3.
14:35	HAYDOCK	TOLLARD ROYAL	Martyn Meade’s sprinter had excuses when only seventh last time out, and a repeat of his reappearance second would be enough to go very close here with conditions to suit under James Doyle.
14:55	YORK	LOOK OUT LOUIS	John Gosden’s unexposed 3-y-o did plenty wrong when well backed for his handicap/seasonal debut at Newmarket last month, and can sharpen up for that run to take advantage of a lenient looking mark.
15:10	HAYDOCK	EVER GIVEN	Andrew Balding’s handicapper snapped a frustrating run when winning over this course and distance first time out this season, and he can follow up with the talented Harry Davies in the saddle and terrific value for his 7lb claim.
15:30	YORK	EILEENDOVER	Andrew Balding’s filly had a wide trip throughout when beaten on her return at Sandown last month in a warm Group 2 over this mile trip, and should strip fitter with that run under her belt. Decent ground suits ideally, and her turn of foot should be a potent weapon late under Rob Hornby.
15:45	HAYDOCK	TWILIGHT CALLS	Andrew Balding’s filly had a wide trip throughout when beaten on her return at Sandown last month in a warm Group 2 over this mile trip, and should strip fitter with that run under her belt.
