There are 3 race meetings in Britain on Sunday, with the final day of the Newmarket Guineas meeting very much the highlight in terms of quality. The big race of the afternoon is the 1000 Guineas at 3.40pm, with the race now having a very open look to things after the withdrawal last weekend of the likely short-priced favourite Inspiral. Elsewhere, there are supporting cards at Hamilton and Salisbury, and both tracks are likely to be watering to maintain good ground after the dry spell continues.
Sandrine
Newmarket 3:40pm
Andrew Balding’s filly won three from five as a juvenile in warm company, and arguably posted a career best effort when third at Newmarket on her final start. She has plenty of size and scope to make up into a cracking 3-y-o this summer, and is worth siding with at around 16/1 in the early market (with the yard suddenly in terrific form after 8 winners in the last fortnight).
Odds: 26.00
Lilac Road
Newmarket 3:00pm
William Hagas’s filly looked a very unlucky loser here on her final start last season, slowly away and getting her run repeatedly checked when full of running. She needs good fast ground to be seen to maximum effect, and seems sure to be primed to make a winning return after 205 days off the track (with Haggas going typically well/7 winners in the last fortnight at 22pc).
Odds: 5.00
