The 1.08 CPI (Slow/Grit) is the defining variable. Ann Li ("The Hammer") relies on flat, penetrating strikes to finish points in 1-4 shots. On a faster court, her 109 mph serve and flat groundstrokes skid and rush the opponent. In Doha, the grit "grabs" the ball, neutralizing Li's speed and causing the ball to sit up in Frech's strike zone.
Magdalena Frech ("The Wall") thrives on this exact dynamic. Her game is built on absorption and redirection. She uses a low backhand slice that forces tall, flat hitters like Li to bend their knees and dig the ball out—a physically exhausting motion that degrades Li's power over time.
Li wants to hit winners; Frech wants to hit "one more ball." The slow court extends rally length, shifting the advantage from Li's anaerobic power to Frech's aerobic resilience.
