Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Recent Form
Wolfsburg have enjoyed an impressive season and look on course to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2015. A watertight defence has played a large part in the club’s success, with the Wolves only losing twice in the last 14 Bundesliga games.
Bayern have triumphed even without the injured Robert Lewandowski but will be disappointed to have crashed out of Europe this week at the hands of PSG. After five straight league wins, Bayern drew at home with Union Berlin last weekend but will be keen to give Hansi Flick another league title before his rumoured exit to take over the German national side.
Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Recent Match Ups
Lewandowski scored twice in the comeback win over Wolfsburg earlier in the season – and that continued a familiar story in this fixture. Bayern has won the last six games between the clubs and has not lost to Wolfsburg since 2015.
Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Stats and Analysis
Wolfsburg’s 4-3 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend upset what had become a familiar routine of Oliver Glasner’s side not conceding and winning games. Wout Weghorst did find the net though – and it is the Dutchman’s 18 goals that have fired the club into Champions League contention.
Before that defeat, Wolfsburg had only lost to Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund this calendar year and have kept opposition goals to a minimum. The performances have been less decisive in recent weeks though and the Wolves will want to avoid falling away at this crucial stage.
Bayern look set to win the Bundesliga once again – and have had to do without star striker Robert Lewandowski for the last two matches in which the champions have narrowly beaten RB Leipzig and then drawn with Union Berlin.
Hansi Flick has plenty of talent at his disposal though, of course. Jamal Musiala scored in that last game, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s goal against PSG was not quite enough to avoid a Champions League exit. Lewandowski has scored the majority of Bayern’s goals this season but there have been some shared between the midfield unit as well.
Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Bets
Bayern never lose many matches, so it perhaps not surprising that even with the draw against Union Berlin and the Champions League exit fresh in the mind, Hansi Flick’s side is odds on to win this at around 1.90. Wolfsburg is priced at 3.50 to win on their own pitch, but that does seem to be bit of a stretch considering the head-to-head record between these two clubs. The draw at 4.00 looks like the best value bet of the three match result options – although that is still a fairly risky move.
It has been very noticeable that Bayern’s free-scoring style has slowed down somewhat since Lewandowski was ruled out with his injury. Before the international break, the champions were regularly scoring three or four goals most weeks and have already managed 80 on the league this season. Wolfsburg also have a very good defense, so the totals goals odds are not too attractive. You have to go to over 4.5 goals before you see any real movement and the under 2.5 is priced at around 2.50.
The bookmakers still fancy Lewandowski to play and score here – and he is the favourite in the first and anytime goalscorer markets. But it might be worth taking a look at Wout Weghorst for one of those bets instead. He is a definite to start the game and Wolfsburg will be desperate to get on the scoresheet first to put the pressure on Bayern. Weghorst can be found at 5.00 to score the first goal.
