At the start of the 2022/23 Liegue 1 season, PSG was seen as the main favourite, while Lyon as the main contender. However, at this point of the season, PSG is still the top team, but with much less fanfare about them. While Lyon is nowhere near to where they want to be as they have slipped down to the middle of the table. Nevertheless, this is a French football classic, and we care to cover it and provide prime PSG vs Lyon predictions.Read more
PSG is still on the top of the Ligue 1 table, seven points clear of the second-seated Olympique Marseille. However, they are out of the Champions League and are not in great shape when it comes to finishing the season. Everyone thought that Paris would simply cruise to the title, but they have had a lot of problems doing so. Particularly in the second part of the season.
They have improved after losing to Monaco (3:1) and went on a four-game win streak. But only to have it cut last Matchweek by Rennes at home. PSG lost to Les Rennais as Karl Toko Ekambi and Arnaud Kalimuendo scored two goals in a span of three minutes to end Paris Saint Germain’s run.
Lyon currently sits 10th in Ligue 1 and have only one win in the last five outings. Most recently, they scored three consecutive draws, with the latest one coming versus Nantes last term.
Lukeba scored an own goal as early as the 2nd minute of the match. It took the effort of Alexandre Lacazette, who scored his 17th goal of the season, to level the match. But Les Gones didn’t have it in them to overturn the match completely and ended up with only a point.
Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Lyon are massive rivals and their rivalry stems even before the Paris club became one of the richest clubs in the world. Interestingly, the score is not so massive between the two. PSG has 46 wins, while Lyon has 33. 26 of the rest were ties.
Lyon only has a single win against PSG in their last five outings. Paris SG has three wins and a single draw during the same span. Their first encounter this season was a back-and-forth affair. PSG got the win thanks to Lionel Messi, who bagged the only goal of the match.
Even with PSG in bad shape, they are still the favourites. The odds of them winning at 1.47 may not be much betting-wise, but it is still the likeliest outcome for this matchup. Lyon winning is rated at 7.30 odds and it does look great, but it is not likely that they are going to grab an away win against the Paris powerhouse.
Instead, our PSG vs Lyon predictions advise you to try for a Draw No Bet on Lyon at 5.00 odds. A draw is quite possible here and if Lyon are motivated enough, they might be able to do it.
Over 3.25 Goals at 2.05 is also something to consider as well as a No on Both Teams to Score at 2.20.
Most of PSG’s problems can be attested to player injuries. The med bay in Paris is filled to the brim and most of those players are not going to be able to recover for this matchup. So expect to see the following lineups on the field.
