After a knockout loss to Stipe Miocic, JDS would rebound with three consecutive wins. A run-in with Francis Ngannou would quickly demolish Junior’s path back to the title, however. In his most recent fight, against Curtis Blaydes, Santos looked out of it, being stopped in round two after an uneventful first-round from the Brazilian.

Now, JDS has taken L’s in his last two bouts, and he needs a win to get back on track. The question is, has father time caught up with JDS? At 36-years old, ‘Cigano’ has been around since the UFC was still producing events at double digit numbers. With his debut in 2008, JDS has fought in three decades. However, JDS hasn’t really been able to piece wins together since losing his rematch against Cain Velasquez.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik (10-1) will stand across from Santos in the cage. ‘Bigi Boy’ carried an undefeated record into his last fight but came up short against Francis Ngannou, the division’s bogeyman. Rozenstruik has wins over Allen Crowder, Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski. He is a big KO-artist with a 90% finish rate.

I feel like the race is run for Junior Dos Santos at this point. Against Francis Ngannou, he looked really bad and seemed to give up more than anything even though numerous strikes from Ngannou forced him to his knees. He is at that stage in his career where he keeps telling himself that he’s still good enough to compete but in reality he is far from it. At least that’s what I got out of his last performance. Despite stopping the takedowns from Curtis Blaydes, he looked like he had nothing to offer on the feet. I really don’t think skills matter in this matchup, because Rozenstruik is hungry for a win and JDS is probably over the hill. I think the willingness and heart of Rozenstruik gives him the KO over seasoned veteran Santos.
