DETROIT PISTONS VS ATLANTA HAWKS

Forget about the Hawks losing two of their last three. Atlanta is much-improved after a full offseason under Quin Snyder. They are fourth in adjusted shot quality, and face a Detroit team on Tuesday who are down in 24th by the same metric.
Yes, the Pistons have homecourt advantage, but they have lost eight games in a row, with seven of those losses by a bigger deficit than this point spread. For all the excitement around Ausar Thompson and the play of Cade Cunningham, the Pistons still look a long way off being a competitive team.
We’re expecting Atlanta to cover with ease here, and we’d even take them if this number gets up to 6.5.

ORLANDO MAGIC VS BROOKLYN NETS

These are two of the best teams against the spread in the league. Only the Sixers have covered more often than the Nets. The Magic, though, are 7-2 against the spread, and are surprisingly 2.5-point road dogs here even following impressive wins over the Bucks and Lakers already this month.
Markelle Fultz, Gary Harris and Wendell Carter Jr are unavailable for the Magic. They have more than enough depth to compensate, and Fultz’s absence could be a blessing in disguise if it allows them to play more shooting at the guard spots. Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas are both out for Brooklyn.
The Nets have generally beaten teams who have started the season slowly and lost to the top teams. While Orlando falls between those two categories, we love the value on a road win for the ultra-talented Magic tonight.

NEW ORLEANS PELICANS VS DALLAS MAVERICKS

The Pelicans are teetering. Injuries have already hit their season, with Trey Murphy, Jose Alvarado, Larry Nance, Herb Jones and CJ McCollum ruled out. Zion Williamson is making unconvincing comments about ‘buying in’, and the play from Brandon Ingram has been inconsistent. The Pels are 27th in net rating and 23rd in shot quality.
Dallas is 8-2, sixth in net rating, and has Luka Doncic leading an elite offence as he compiles a serious case for MVP. They beat the Pelicans on the road by 12 points just two nights ago, and have already covered this spread away to the Spurs, Grizzlies and Magic.
This is a no-brainer for us. Dallas might not yet be seen as an elite team, but they are in a much better place than New Orleans, who could be facing some big decisions before the trade deadline.
