I may not have expected the 6-4 first set between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini at the United Cup, but we did accurately talk about how a three setter in a coin flip match was more than possible and a tiebreak at some point could come into play (happened in the second set). Thankfully, we cash our over from Friday’s selection, and look to the events in Adelaide and Auckland (let’s hope the weather is more forgiving this week than it was for the women’s event last week) for this week’s selections.
For Monday’s matchup, we’ll look at the contest between two big serving and big hitting men in Arthur Rinderknech and Marc Andrea Huesler in Adelaide.
In this article:
January 10th, TBD (UK Time)
Much like our women’s article for the day, we have another case of a French player that matches up very well with their opponent in terms of strengths but does a few things just a little bit better to give them the edge.
While both these men have extremely strong first serves and big, powerful forehands, the Frenchman’s backhand is far less error-prone and his general ability to cover the court and stick around in longer rallies without committing unforced errors supercedes his Swiss opponent’s as well.
In fact, while I’m generally hesitant to point to head-to-head records between players (time, as well as surface can render certain results irrelevant to a current matchup), we’ve seen Rinderknech enjoy success against Huesler in the past as well. He defeated the lefty each of the first two times they played, and actually won more games in Huesler’s lone victory, losing in an odd 6-1, 6-7, 6-7 contest.
Without doing much better, and not having any history of playing at the top of the game on outdoor hard courts, I’m happy to back Rinderknech at the current price.
Once again, much like Cornet being in the 1.78 price range for the women’s play, Rinderknech is priced up in the 1.74 range, despite Huesler not really being all that much more effective at a whole lot.
Well worth a standard-sized stake.
Odds as at 1:30 am on January 9th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
