Well, an extremely disappointing performance from Brandon Nakashima, whose poor first set against David Goffin sank Monday’s bet.
Onto Tuesday, where we’ll take a look at the match between Maxime Cressy and Dominic Stephan Stricker in Basel.
In this article:
October 25th, 15:30 UK Time
It’s a match that may not register highly on the entertainment-value scale, but it’s one that is presenting some value in the betting markets.
With both Cressy and Stricker being heavily serve-oriented players, we aren’t likely to see many long rallies, incredible shot-making or breaks of serve.
That said, there are a few things that stand out.
First, Stricker is a less-known commodity in the betting markets. That in and of itself provides a bit of value in this position.
Secondly, he’s a bit more athletic and moves in a more brisk fashion than the tall French-American.
Finally, he double faults much less than Cressy.
While the serve-and-volley tactic employed by Cressy may be tough to adjust to for the youngster, and the aggressive, high-risk-high-reward return style may also catch him by surprise, he does have his fair share of matchup advantages coming into this first-round encounter.
While the over would seem like the obvious wager in this position, for my money, the markets have done a much better job correcting that number and price than they have on the market for who wins the match.
With two massive servers and subpar returners on quicker courts, I can’t take issue with this number being in the 24-25 game range.
I do, however, think that Stricker on quicker indoor hard courts – where he’s had success in the past – wins this more often than 40% of the time.
From a logical standpoint, if this one is destined for three sets and/or several tiebreaks, it is as close a match as one can get. To have that as a 60-40 proposition doesn’t make much sense.
Secondly, matchup-wise, it’s Cressy that is more likely to gift points away with double faults. That makes him slightly more likely to be broken, and more importantly, give up the all-important edge in tiebreaks, should sets get to that point.
Odds as at 4:30 pm on October 25th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
