Well, as expected a tight first set from Leandro Riedi and Robin Haase, but the veteran’s motivation waned in the second and neither bet hit.
For Friday, we look at the match between Guido Andreozzi and Juan Bautista Otegui from the Temuco Challenger in Chile.
In this article:
November 25th, 16:00 UK Time
Interesting match for a Challenger quarterfinals in singles, as Andreozzi – who has been more of a doubles player in 2022 – takes on Otegui – who, prior to this week, had not won a single professional match on hard courts this season.
In what is an incredible opportunity for both men to reach a Challenger quarterfinal, my money is on the 31-year-old Andreozzi to prevail.
He may have played a bit more leading into this match so far this week, but he has a much better history in singles, a much better serve and he’s still playing a compatriot that has played just two matches on hard courts this season (even if they were at this event as an underdog).
Momentum can be meaningful in individual sports, but for my money, the logical thing to do here is to oppose the Cinderella story with someone that has more pedigree, as well as a bigger game.
Opposing Otegui didn’t work out all that well earlier this week with Ficovich, but I still feel he’s far from being someone that’s reliable on hard courts and am more than willing to back Andreozzi in this position.
While Andreozzi has been focusing on doubles play, for the most part, this season, it’s also worth noting that his singles play took a hit thanks to injury, and now that he’s back and has won several matches this week leading into the quarters, I’m happy to back him.
Odds as at 11:15 pm on November 24th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
