Beatriz Haddad Maia is expected back in the United States to fill the position in the main draw and the Brazilian will carry the 13-seed in this WTA1000 event in Toronto. This section 4 clash shows the Czech Republic native as the favorite at -145 but Haddad Maia has had her number.

This will be the fourth time these two get together and Haddad Maia has owned Bouzkova thus far but the line setters think that will all change today. Another thing to notice when these two hit the court is the 3-set factor from the three meetings.

Who am I to notice such a thing, HA! It is no mystery to anyone that the Over 2.5 Sets prop can find its way to my bet sheet, and I am not letting this one go without putting it on the board for this affair.

Bouzkova reached the final in Washington this past week only to lose to Paula Bodosa in three sets after getting blown out in the opening frame, 6 – 1. Marie upset Aryna Sabalenka in the semis to pick up a top-5 victory in Washington although that Sabalenka serve was a disaster all week at the event. Shocker!

I have Haddad Maia winning this match at +125 as the underdog, and the Over 2.5 Sets prop goes in as the main play for this first-round fight in Toronto.

BEATRIZ HADDAD MAIA FORM

Haddad Maia didn’t fare well in Paris picking up only one win at the Olympic Games. I called for that loss to Schmiedlova last week but I don’t think the Brazilian will be slowed down enough to get past Bouzkova in Toronto.

As the underdog in Toronto at +125, the Brazilian needs to win this match to level the record on hardcourts (8 – 9) this season. At 19 – 19 overall in 2024, Beatriz struggled on clay this year (7 – 6) which is rare for her having recorded six campaigns with double-digit wins on the dirt.  

MARIE BOUZKOVA FORM

Washington DC was a moderate success reaching the finals last week but the loss to Paula Badosa could leave a scar. The win over Sabalenka provided some confidence for the Czech native but a runners-up trophy will have to do.

Bouzkova faced 18 break points in that final and Badosa threw away nine double faults on serve but the Spaniard was the victor.

Marie has a 9 – 9 record on hardcourts this season but for the first since 2021, the Czech will not have a winning record on all three surfaces (2 – 3 Grass).

Beatriz has owned Marie in three meetings with the Czech native.

The first time they met in Monterrey was during the 2022 campaign, and as we know the match went three sets because all three of the meetings between these two have gone the distance.
