Bernabe Zapata Miralles vs Pedro Martinez Best Bet: Monday, February 13th

It was a tumultuous second set for Sebastian Baez, but the first and third were utterly dominant from the 22-year-old, as he easily cashed the -3.5-game handicap.

This week, the ATP Tour shifts to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, as well as Buenos Aires, Argentina and Delray Beach in the United States. For Monday’s selection, it’s the match between Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Pedro Martinez in the Argentinian capital that we’ll preview.

Bernabe Zapata Miralles vs Pedro Martinez Preview

February 13th, 16:30 (UK Time)

The awful 2022 season for Martinez appears to have extended into 2023, as he’s lost three straight matches after a pair of three-set wins against poor tour-level hard courters in a weaker field in Week 1 of the season.

Last year, the Spaniard actually lost nine of ten matches at one point and he struggled to string wins together. In fact, he made four quarterfinals out of all the events he played, with three coming on clay in altitude (Santiago, Gstaad, Kitzbuhel). In his lone clay match of the year to date, he lost to a horribly out of form Cristian Garin, being dealt a 6-0 beatdown in the deciding set. He has a decent serve and can attack from the forehand wing, but he doesn’t generate nearly enough cheap points for the number of unforced errors he makes.

With Zapata Miralles on the other side of the net, that’s not a weakness you want to have. He is incredibly consistent from the baseline, makes you hit a lot of balls each rally and can wear you down physically – something Martinez may also be struggling with at the moment.

Bernabe Zapata Miralles vs Pedro Martinez Best Bet

Considering Martinez’s poor form that’s been going on for months now, his propensity for hitting errors and Zapata Miralles’ solidity from the baseline, I have the 26-year-old as a fairly clear favourite in this matchup.

His clay-court elo rating is higher, and he posted the same hold plus break percentage at tour level over the last 52 weeks (again, remove the altitude events from Martinez’s number and his number would be well below that of Zapata Miralles).

With the markets pricing this one up as a nearly dead-even contest, I’ll side with Zapata Miralles to advance.

  • Selection: Zapata Miralles to win
  • Best Odds: 1.86 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 9:30 pm UK Time on February 12th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
