Borna Gojo vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Best Bet: Friday, May 19th

Losing the main selection at high odds isn’t as tough to deal with, but the bonus selection was a painful one, as the first set progressed as expected. Tsitsipas dominated the forehand rallies and Coric was ahead in the backhand exchanges. Through seven games, there wasn’t a single break point and we were a game away from cashing that bet, but Coric found himself broken right at the finish line.

For the week’s final article, it’s back to the Challenger Tour, seeing as it’s women’s semifinal day in Rome and the men are off.

Let’s take a look at the match between Borna Gojo and Geoffrey Blancaneaux from the Tunis Challenger.

In this article:

Borna Gojo vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Preview

May 18th, 14:00 (UK Time)

It’s been another strong run for the big man from Croatia, as Gojo is into his fourth Challenger Tour semifinal of the 2023 season already. He’s yet to capture a title though, something he’ll obviously be looking to rectify in Tunis.

He’ll have a great chance on Friday against France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux.

A clay courter, Blancaneaux’s game is predicated primarily on his ability to move the ball around the court, defend and minimise the number of unforced errors that he hits.

The problem is, he has a relatively low ceiling, seeing as he struggled in a big way to generate much in the way of offence on the court.

Gojo possesses no such problems. Equipped with a big serve and forehand combination, Gojo should be looking to dictate as many points as he possibly can.

He’s also comfortable on clay courts, plays with a more controlled aggression and enters this matchup in much better form.

Finally, the key matchup advantage he has for me is the fact that he should be able to generate plenty of opportunities to break the Frenchman’s serve. That won’t be nearly as easy for Blancaneaux, considering just how much power Gojo can generate behind his first delivery.

Borna Gojo vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Best Bet

Now that we’ve established Gojo as the clear favourite, it comes down to just how much of a favourite he should be.

With Blancaneaux entering this tournament having won just five matches in 10 events and beating one player thanks to a retirement in the first set and another in Joao Sousa who has been one of the worst players on the men’s tour this season, I struggle to see why Gojo wouldn’t be a 5-game favourite at the very least.

He’s shown the ability to break serve consistently, isn’t going up against someone with the power to find cheap points and he’s shown the ability to post several lopsided set scores this week already.

All the ingredients are there for Gojo to cover the 4-game handicap and I’ll back him to do so in this one.

  • Selection: Gojo -4 Games
  • Best Odds: 1.95 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 4/10
  • Bonus: Gojo to win 2-0 (-1.5 sets) at 1.97 with Unibet, using 2/10 stakes.

Odds as at 3:00 am May 19th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
