It’s hard for me to get to Norrie being a clear favorite in the market’s mind in this matchup. His season has been pretty poor, he wasn’t great during the Canada + Cincinnati stretch a year ago, his forehand misses far too much for a player that relies on point construction and solidity and Giron is having a pretty decent season and has become someone that can cause upsets on quicker courts.

Giron should be the aggressor and I don’t even think it’s a guarantee that his opponent will have a big edge in terms of consistency.

I’ll back the more in-form player in 2024 and the better quick courter at underdog odds.

Cam Norrie Recent Form

Norrie’s ranking has come crashing down to 47 – the lowest he’s been ranked in over three years – and it’s mainly because his game simply isn’t clicking.

Once known for spot serving, incredible consistency, and brilliant building of points, he’s become far too error-prone in the last year or so, often leaves the ball too centrally, and hasn’t added any power to his game to make up for it.

The result has been two decent runs that are now firmly in the rearview, as well as a fourth-round run in Australia and a third-round run at Wimbledon to at least keep him from falling even further.

Maybe this is the week he turns it around, but without being psychic, the information I have to work with tells me he’s an undeserving favorite in this tilt. My Norrie vs Giron prediction is for Giron to win.

Marcos Giron Recent Form

Giron has fared well this season on quicker surfaces, particularly in North America.

A Dallas final, Delray Beach semi, and, most recently, the Newport title have all been breakthrough-like tournaments for the 31-year-old.

Somehow, he’s the higher-ranked player in this matchup. That isn’t a metric used in handicapping, as surface, form, and style are all more important, but it is a decent way of illustrating how much he’s risen and how far Norrie has fallen.
