Monday Tennis Best Bet: ATP Marrakech, Dimitar Kuzmanov vs Hugo Grenier

Dimitar Kuzmanov vs Hugo Grenier Best Bet: Monday, April 3rd
Another day, another blown lead. Kacper Zuk led 3-0 in the final set with a double break of serve lead and coughed it up. Suppose it wasn’t the most surprising blown lead, considering I did preview his inexplicable lack of killer instinct when it comes time to close out matches.
This week, the tour returns to clay for the true clay season as we begin the countdown to Roland Garros.
For Monday’s selection, let’s take a look at the matchup featuring Dimitar Kuzmanov and Hugo Grenier.

Dimitar Kuzmanov vs Hugo Grenier Preview
April 3rd, 11:30 (UK Time)
It’s a main draw spot on the line in an ATP Tour-level event for these two veterans that generally grind out their living on the Challenger circuit
For my money, the Bulgarian should be a much larger favourite in this one on clay.
It’s the favoured surface for Kuzmanov, whereas Grenier is more comfortable on hard courts. Last season’s performances on clay from the Frenchman weren’t the most inspiring, with as many losses as wins. To make matters worse, it’s hard to find more than one or two decent wins against competent clay courters.
Stylistically, Grenier really doesn’t do a whole lot that can hurt Kuzmanov. He plays the serve-and-push style that many hard-court first kind of players employ. The first serve finds cheap points on faster surfaces, while his consistency from the baseline can help him wait out errors.
On clay, most are consistent, but can also construct points and not just wait for errors. The serve, meanwhile, loses some of its potency and it becomes harder for him to find free points behind those first deliveries.
Dimitar Kuzmanov vs Hugo Grenier Best Bet
Until I see some improvement on the red dirt this season from Grenier, I’m going to be happy to oppose him with someone that has as much talent as him, but with more comfort playing on clay, and a better track record.
Especially if I’m not having to give up a head start and I can back them simply to win the match at prices in the 1.65 to 1.70 range.
This is one such case, and I’ll happily take Kuzmanov to move onto the main draw.
