Elina Avanesyan vs Anna Schmiedlova Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 7/19/24

Elina Avanesyan and Anna Schmiedlova will kick off quarterfinal action at the Budapest Grand Prix on Friday, and one of them will become the first semifinalist of the tournament.
Schmiedlova has spent plenty of time on the court in the first two rounds in Hungary as each of her first two matches in Budapest have gone the distance. The Slovakian native has twice dropped the first set having to make two comebacks to land in the quarterfinal today.
Schmiedlova hasn’t fared well at this stage recently having lost 7 of her last 8 quarterfinal matches, and will be a +160 underdog to reach the semifinals.
Avanesyan is in familiar territory having reached this stage a year ago but the 21-year-old has never reached a semifinal in her young career.
EJ Garr’s Elina Avanesyan vs Anna Schmiedlova prediction is on a handicap priced at -115, so check out his offer below.

Elina Avanesyan vs Anna Schmiedlova Prediction
- Prediction: Anna Schmiedlova +3.5 Games Handicap
- Best Odds: -115
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time July 19, 2024.
Elina Avanesyan is a strong favorite to get past her Slovakian opponent today, and some bookmakers are setting lines as high as -200 on that expectation. On average, -175 is the line offered at most major books, and I am surprised to see that but we’re going to take advantage of it.
I was hoping to catch the +4 at a reasonable price, but the vig on that isn’t my style so when I saw -115 on the +3.5 at Pinnacle it was all I needed. I don’t expect this to be some kind of blowout and I imagine a few bettors might take a flyer on Schmiedlova at +160 to upset Avanesyan.
As the favorite, the pressure now turns to Evanesyan because she has never reached a semifinal outside an ITF event but has four clay titles at that level to her credit. Elina’s best surface is the dirt, giving her confidence as she enters more WTA250-level events against quality opponents.
Today is one of those days, as Schmiedlova (79) is ranked only four spots behind Avanesyan (75), and the Slovak recently claimed the Parma Challenger title to win her eighth career title on clay.
Schmiedlova has shown some moxy while mounting a pair of comebacks dropping the first set in two matches in Budapest. Elina was a +130 underdog against Sorribes Tormo, after a 2 – 6 opening frame defeat, the Slovak broke the Spaniard 6 times en route to a pair of 6 – 2 set wins to advance to today’s quarterfinal in Budapest.
This will be a closer match than the experts would like you to think, so the +3.5 games on the underdog Slovak to cover is the play to make at -115.
