Qualifier Liz Mandlik and Wild Cand Celine Naef will meet in the first round of the Libéma Open on Monday in a WTA100 event in Hertogenbosch. Ej’s Liz Mandlik vs Celine Naef prediction features odds at -110 and can be found below.
Celine Naef has lost her last five matches looking for any semblance of confidence, and the line setters can’t seem to decide if the Swiss native can get past Mandlik. At -110, Naef and Mandlik is essentially a pick ‘em match, so let’s be sure we pick it right.
Mandlik is 2 – 0 after qualifying wins to land in the first round of the bottom bracket, and the American is 1 – 0 against Naef from their 2023 clash at the French Open.
Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time June 10, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Since that is the case, I will go with the American to take this win and advance to face whoever wins the Van Uytvanck vs Samsonova in the second round.
Celine Naef’s clay campaign was pretty straightforward winning her first three matches and then finishing with a 3 – 5 record on the dirt. With a loss to start the grass season at Surbiton, Naef has a five-match losing streak to break and has only won one set from those affairs.
Ranked 155th in the world, Naef is 17 – 16 in 2024 and down a few notches from her highest number of 141 last season. Her ascent up the rankings was still impressive as she was sitting at 415th in the world just two years ago.
Speaking of a decline, Amanda Anisomova was Mandlik’s first victim in qualifying after losing the first set and mounting the comeback to win in three. Mandlik made quick work of Zeynep Sommez to advance to the first round, and she needed it after a rough start to the 2024 season.
Mandlik hasn’t won a match on a hard court this season (0 – 2), and her 3 – 7 record on clay didn’t help matters much. Now at 3 – 1 on grass, Mandlik is gaining some steam and I hope it’s enough to progress her through to the second round.
My Mandlik vs Naef prediction is for Mandlik to win!
Mandlik only played two hard-court matches before hitting the clay swing on tour, and a combined 3 – 9 record didn’t give her much confidence headed to grass.
Mandlik was 6 – 3 on grass last season and is looking for a third straight win in the Netherlands after two qualifying wins.
Naef has lost five straight matches, the last four being on clay with one loss already on grass.
Celine was dismissed at Surbiton by Julie Neimeier at 3 & 1 to kick off her grass season, and she is 0 – 1 against Mandlik in her career.
Liz and Celine have met once before at the French Open in 2023, a match that Mandlik went on to win, 7 – 5, 6 – 3.
