Wild Card entrant Emma Raducanu has enjoyed the crowd support in her native England, and she’ll need the support as she takes on 9th-ranked Maria Sakkari in the third round on Friday in London.

Raducanu entered the third Major Tournament of the 2024 campaign ranked 135th in the world, but she arrives at this third-round clash as the favorite to past her Greek opponent.

Maria Sakkari has struggled with consistency all season and lands in the third round as the underdog against Raducanu on Friday.

EJ Garr’s Emma Raducanu vs Maria Sakkari prediction features odds at +144 to end the week with a bang… Again!.

Emma Raducanu vs Maria Sakkari WTA Wimbledon Prediction: Home Is A Good Place To Be

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +144
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time July 5, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Home is a good place to be, and Emma Raducanu has enjoyed that support at Wimbledon through her two wins in London to land in the third round. Emma grew up about an hour from London in Bromley, and she can feel the crowd supporting her as she keeps winning.

In this situation, the 9th-ranked player in the world shouldn’t be an underdog against anyone outside the top 100, no matter the circumstances. We all know that Raducanu reached as high as 19th in the world in 2021 while finishing that campaign with a run to the U.S. Open Title.

Emma is the favorite with odds at -140, and if that doesn’t give Sakkari a wake-up call, what will?

This match will be a 3-set thriller and we are going to take advantage of the +144 line at Pinnacle to end the week with a bang. We ended last week with a +149 Banger, and I am 4 – 1 over the last week, and that doesn’t include my Bonus Bet yesterday on the first set Over 9.5 at +114 in the Boulter vs Dart match. (What an upset Dart pulled off, by the way!)

Emma will have the crowd behind her, but Sakkari will win the first set pushing her to get her emotions together to force a third set. At +110, Pinnacle has Sakkari winning the first set and that is your bonus bet for today.

After Emma wins set #2, we celebrate with a +144 ticket to cash on the Over 2.5 Sets prop.

When that third set goes to a tie-break, the emotions in Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club will be filled with high-pressure points.

Emma knows the crowd will be behind her today, but she still has to get out there and perform to help lift that to a big win at Wimbledon on Friday. Raducanu is 6 – 2 on the grass this season and advanced to the semis in Nottingham before falling to eventual tournament champ Katie Boulter.

Favored but ranked 135th in the world puts a high expectation on Emma to push her game to the next level and Sakkari is still a top-10 player on the WTA Tour.

Emma has compiled a 16 – 13 record on the grass in her career, as she puts 2023 behind her. Raducanu competed in only 10 matches last season which is a big result of the ranking falling outside the top 100.

That Top-10 ranking could be in jeopardy on Friday, and a loss in the third round to Raducanu might be enough to displace her.

Sakkairi started the grass season as an underdog against Azarenka in Berlin, and a straight-sets loss wasn’t the best way to gain any momentum. Maria entered Bad Homberg against 90th-ranked Julie Neiemeir as a considerable favorite, and that ended with a tie-break third-set loss.

Maria is 2 – 0 at Wimbledon with wins over McCartney Kessler and Arantxa Rus, and she has a 29 – 21 record on the grass over her career.

The one time that Sakkari and Raducanu faced each other was during Emma’s run to the 2021 U.S. Open Cup title. They squared off in the semis and Raducanu smashed her way through at 1 & 4 over Sakkari.

The winner of this match will face the victor of the battle between Lulu Sun and Lin Zhu in the fourth round of section 6 this weekend.
