Facundo Bagnis vs Nicolas Moreno de Alboran Best Bet: Tuesday, March 28th

Well, Chris Eubanks was absolutely rolling along in that match until the lone break point he faced in the entire match. That led to a tiebreak in which he had to save five set points to take it in straight sets. We take the win regardless (especially one that was one-way traffic for the vast majority of the contest) and move onto Tuesday!

For Tuesday, we’ll head down to the Challenger Tour, where there is a match that piques my interest in the altitude of Mexico City between Facundo Bagnis and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran.

Facundo Bagnis vs Nicolas Moreno de Alboran Preview

March 28th, 21:00 (UK Time)

It’s been a tough season on the whole for Bagnis, who has struggled for consistency to this point.

That said, this is still a clay court and his opponent in Moreno de Alboran is more likely a product of his smart scheduling than his improved play.

Make no mistake, the American has been playing better tennis in the last 12 months than he had before. He still isn’t at the level of being a high-level Challenger Tour or fringe ATP Tour level kind of guy.

That’s where Bagnis is, and beating him on a clay court still takes some work.

The Argentine has lost to the likes of Marco Cecchinato (twice), Thiago Seyboth Wild (a big ball striker who won a bucket load of matches in the Chilean Challenger swing) and Laslo Djere (a legitimate ATP Tour clay courter and that was via retirement).

Ultimately, he’s still found a few clay wins this season against guys that would be in a similar tier of player to Moreno de Alboran and the losses are coming to more established and known opponents.

Moreno de Alboran also doesn’t possess the raw weapons needed to hit through the veteran’s consistent play, and even with his game playing up at altitude, I’m not sure he should be a slight underdog.

Facundo Bagnis vs Nicolas Moreno de Alboran Best Bet

The 25-year-old American is nearing a new career high of 179 at the moment, but a lot of that has to do with where he’s played to rack up his ranking points.

With his best run of the season coming against a weak field at an Indian Challenger and last season’s best runs mostly mirroring that weak field (a South American hard-court event and then a late-season clay event after many players have wrapped up playing), I’m confident that the form may be a tad overvalued here.

Bagnis might be on the decline, but I do think his level is still high enough to beat Moreno de Alboran in this position far more often than not.

  • Selection: Bagnis to win
  • Best Odds: 1.70 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 4:00 am on March 28th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
