Marc Andrea Huesler vs Kamil Majchrzak Best Bet: Friday, September 30th

A nice result from Thursday’s ATP selection, as Aleksandar Vukic does, indeed, come through as expected, but not without a turbulent route, looking abysmal in the first set. That was good news for the over, as the three-set match ensured the bet would land.

Onto Friday, and it’s Sofia where we’ll end the week, as Marc Andrea Huesler takes on Kamil Majchrzak for a place in the semifinals. With both being predominantly seen at the Challenger Tour, this (like yesterday’s preview) is a massive chance for both players.

Marc Andrea Huesler vs Kamil Majchrzak Preview

September 30th, 12:00 UK Time

After spending a few years at the Challenger Tour level and lacking any real success at the top levels of the game on the main tour, Huesler is looking to reach his second ATP Tour semifinal in just over a month’s time. Talk about maximising one’s chances in weaker 250-level fields.

This week actually comes as less of a shock than his success in Winston Salem, however, as these conditions appear to be much quicker, something that favours the Swiss’ game style.

For starters, he’s a tall lefty with a big first serve, the ability to come to net and powerful groundstrokes. On quicker courts, those kinds of things are even more imposing than normal.

Secondly, as someone who can be error-prone from the baseline (thus why he’s played primarily at lower levels), quicker conditions allow him to find more free points with his serve or cheap points with his powerful forehand. When he can keep points shorter, the chances of him hitting errors are reduced. Fewer points lost means he’s more likely to find wins.

As for Majchrzak, he’s had success across surfaces, with a decent game from the baseline that sits between powerful and consistent. His game has played up on quicker surfaces (see his grass success in the past), but he’s certainly not competent enough of a returner for my money for him to really apply much pressure to Huesler’s serve, whereas his game is relatively underpowered and could be much more susceptible to that same kind of pressure.

Marc Andrea Huesler vs Kamil Majchrzak Best Bet

With this price in the 1.70 region, I’m a fan of backing Huesler. Is there a path to victory for Majchrzak? Of course. If Huesler’s unable to keep the ball in the court, he’s in trouble.

In terms of what outcome is far more likely? I have the player more comfortable in the conditions, who’s had more success this year on quicker surfaces and has the more powerful game coming through far more often than the odds would suggest.

I’ll back the 26-year-old from Switzerland here.

  • Selection: Huesler to win
  • Best Odds: 1.67 (William Hill)
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 9:00 am on September 30th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
