Odds as at 3:00 am UK Time on November 21st, 2023. Odds may now differ.
While I think Andreozzi has proven himself plenty at altitude, I think the fact that this match is taking place on a hard court should favour the American a tad more, and for me his price is a bit too long.
I’ll back Boyer as the underdog in this contest.
Read on for more expert insights.
It’s been a comeback season of sorts for the veteran for Argentina.
After barely playing in 2022, Andreozzi has surged back into the top 200 of the rankings and has had a bit of success at the Challenger level.
That said, most of his success in 2023 has come on clay, with a decent proportion of his hard-court victories coming in qualifying matches or against lesser competition.
His big strength here aside from his serve that plays up in altitude is his ability to play in what can sometimes be tougher conditions.
From the baseline, however, I have him as worse than Boyer, and that’s one of the big reasons I have to back the upstart American at the odds on offer.
The 22-year-old Boyer has really made a name for himself this year, as he has a pretty good game that can dictate play and play across surfaces.
I certainly think he’s a player on the rise and has a game that can also take advantage of the thinner air and quicker conditions.
The only concern is that we haven’t seen him play much in elevated conditions, and that could prove troublesome.
Still, with his odds implying he wins just about 40% of the time, there is value in backing him.
They’ve only played one match against one another in the past and that was down at a UTR event, with Boyer winning the first set in a tiebreak and Andreozzi calling it quits.
Not a whole lot to glean from that, but at the very least it is a good sign.
