Jannik Sinner vs Emil Ruusuvuori Best Bet: Friday, June 16th

Nice performance by Jordan Thompson, who was dominant on serve and managed to wear Milos Raonic down, winning as the underdog in straight sets.

We’ll stick with the tournament in the Netherlands for our final men’s preview of the week, and look at the quarterfinal between Jannik Sinner and Emil Ruusuvuori.

Jannik Sinner vs Emil Ruusuvuori Preview

June 16th, 15:00 (UK Time)

If you’re a fan of baseliners that can absolutely crush their groundstrokes, you won’t find many more entertaining matchups than Sinner and Ruusuvuori.

The younger of the two has a much more well-known name and is the better player, but don’t overlook Ruusuvuori – especially on a quicker surface. The Finn has had almost all his success in his career on quicker hard courts, winning several Challenger events and reaching one final.

He has a strong serve, big forehand and aggressive game. Playing on fast courts allows him to keep points shorter, which is key, because he can also be erratic as rallies get extended.

As a flatter hitter, he should also benefit from the grass courts lower bounce, with the balls flying through the court and taking time away from his opposition to be able to get the ball back.

Sinner also has that capability, being one of the biggest hitters from the baseline in the men’s game.

The Italian’s serve, however, may be strong, but isn’t exactly unreturnable. In his last match against Alexander Bublik, the Kazakh was able to pressure Sinner’s service games consistently in the opening set, before he crumbled after having a call go against him and losing his cool with the chair.

Jannik Sinner vs Emil Ruusuvuori Best Bet

While there’s no doubt to me that Sinner should be the favourite in this matchup, I don’t think it’s as lopsided as the market has priced it up. Ruusuvuori should see some chances on return, has the serve and groundstrokes to hold his own serve consistently, and has the game that suits the quicker courts.

I’ll back the 24-year-old to keep this one close and come away with the win more than the 25% implied probability that we’re seeing in the markets.

  • Selection: Over 22 Games
  • Best Odds: 1.96 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 3/10
  • Bonus: Ruusuvuori to win at 4.00 with Bet365, using 1/10 stakes.

Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on June 16th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
